Sensors around the latch ensure that the lid does not close when the chamber is under steam pressure. The entire cycle is automatic, it starts at the touch of a button. First, air is vented to create a partial vacuum, after the purge cycle is complete, vapor builds up until the desired pressure and temperature is reached.
