  1. 3d metal carbodiimides: nitrogen analogues of 3d oxides Prof. R. Dronskowski, Chair of Solid-State and Quantum Chemistry, RWTH Aachen Univ., Germany While being thermodymatically unstable, transition metal carbodiimides can be kinetically stable and, thus, obtained under specific conditions. E.g. MnNCN is synthesized through a metathesis reaction that is driven by sublimation of ZnCl2. 600 °C: MnCl2(s) + ZnNCN(s) = ZnCl2(g) + MnNCN Similar to oxides, 3d metal cabodiimides might provide new examples of solid-state chemistry/physics phenomena of the correlated 3d transition metals stretched NaCl-type structure (sp. gr. R–3m)a = 3.3583(4) Å, c = 14.347(2) ÅR1 = 0.025, wR2 = 0.059high-spin Mn(II): t2g3eg2; μ = 5.84 μBantiferromagnetic coupling, θ = –302 K X. Liu, M. Krott, P. Müller, C. Hu, H. Lueken, R.
