Playing rules are what happens at the field, court, pool, pitch, mat, rink, track, slope or range when an opponent and officials are present. Playing rules are the same for all three divisions. Playing rules are the same for regular-season and championships competition. INFORMATION GATHERING During the season, coaches are surveyed in January for feedback regarding playing rules, which provides feedback to the committee about possible issues for consideration. September to March Wrestling Playing Rules Process April 13-16 ANNUAL MEETING The committee listed to the right meets April 13-16 to discuss the survey results, rules-change proposals and championships issues. Two Weeks COMMENT PERIOD In late April, a list of rules-change proposals approvedby the committee at the annual meeting is sent to coachesand conference commissioners for feedback. The two-week comment period allows the membership to see the exact languageof the rules-change proposals before they are finalized. May PROP APPROVAL The Playing Rules Oversight Panel (PROP) reviews all of the rules-change proposals approved by the committee and the membership’s comments. PROP’s charge is to review the proposals for financial implications, safety concerns and image of the game. All items approved by PROP are incorporated into the rules book and sent to coaches. August 2010-11 WRESTLING RULES BOOK A complimentary copy of the two-year Wrestling Rules and Interpretations Book is mailed to each head coach in August. Additional copies may be ordered at NCAA.org or by calling 888/388-9748.
