  3. The School • 1858 mixed comprehensive • Academy status • 88% A*-C at GCSE this year. 75% A*-C inc English and Maths. • Judged as “Outstanding” by OFSTED in 2006 and 2008 • Newly designated ‘Teaching School’ - one of the first in the country

  4. The Curriculum. • KS3 - 2 year KS3 / Integrated studies Yr 7 group • KS4 - 3 year GCSE courses/ foundation courses / diplomas / vocational courses / AS courses / intervention groups / consolidated group

  5. Innovation and technology at the heart of the school • 11 dedicated IT suites – both Mac and PC • WAVE / DART facilities • Wildern TV / Wildern Radio • Virtual Learning Environment – to personalise learning and facilitate out of hours learning • Interactive whiteboards in most classrooms • All teachers have own laptop.

  6. Graduate Teacher Programme Wildern School in partnership with: - University of Chichester - University of Southampton

  7. Formal Qualifications • UK Honours Degree 2:2 or above. At least 50% in the relevant subject (flexible in some circumstances) • GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English • No history of failure or withdrawal from QTS course in the past.

  8. Special consideration will be given to priority subjects…. • Maths • Physics • Chemistry and then: • ICT • Design and Technology • Modern Foreign Languages • Those who have LSA / cover supervisor experience or experience of whole school issues.

  9. Courses offered by the University of Chichester • as well as the priority subjects: Science (Biology), Business Studies, English, PE, Dance, Music, Drama, History, RE and Art

  10. Courses offered the University of Southampton At this stage: Chemistry, Physics, Maths, ICT, English and PE.

  11. The Application Process • The application process has recently changed • Applicant completes school application form to be received by Wednesday 12th October 2011 – 3pm. • Applicants will be notified in writing by 26th October 2011. • School invites successful applicants into school for a day, which will include a formal interview, Friday 4th November 2011. • University interviews follow, January – March 2011. • Successful applicants arrange work experience within Wildern – 15 days

The Application Process • Successful applicants attend an interview at University of Chichester or University of Southampton, which includes a subject audit • University Tutor visits school to conduct a School Assessment, where appropriate • School / applicant complete application online – new directive from the TDA • School / applicant informed of start date and Induction date.

  13. University of Southampton GTP Open Evenings • 6pm - 7pm Friday 11th November • 6pm - 7pm Monday 12th December • (please check on University website)

  14. To support your application • Personal Statement – there will be an exemplar statement on the GTP page of Wildern website this week • References will be asked for • Applicants should: • emphasise experience in schools and what has been gained from this in relation to teaching • refer to the QTS standards, which can be found on the TDA website • demonstrate an awareness of whole school issues • keep up to date with issues in Education – Times Education Supplement • be aware of differences between GTP / PGCE programme

  16. Funding Wildern School only applies for supernumerary places, with full Salary and Training grant. The TDA pays the school through the salary grant, and a training grant.
