  3. Chapter 4 – Keystone Exams • Graduation Requirement • Class of 2016-17: current ninth graders • Proficient or higher • Unlimited retakes • Supplemental instruction after each unsuccessful attempt • Exam or PBA • Accountability • Federal – ‘NCLB’ waiver • State – part of School Performance Profile

  4. Chapter 4 – Keystone PBA • Alternative for Graduation Requirement ONLY • After two (or more) unsuccessful attempts of Exam • IEP Student • Team determines when student moves to project • Could move to PBA after one unsuccessful attempt • May work on project and retake exam • One PBA per Module

  6. Keystone exams • Depth of Knowledge • Majority at levels 2 and 3 • Composition is coming (subject to funding) • Required beginning 2018-19 school year • State graduation requirement

  7. Keystone PBA • Test – not a creative project • One ‘project’ per module • Complete a project for each non-proficient module • Assesses same Eligible Content at the same DOK levels • Computer administered in a secure setting • Log on required; good for 1 hour • Monitored

  8. Keystone PBA – Key ROLES • Test Administrator • Monitors students as they work • Provides log on information for students • Log on is good for one hour • Does NOT remediate unless also designated as Tutor • Tutor • Recommended certifications on SAS • Reviews project activities and completed project • Instructs/remediates on an as-needed basis

  9. The Project is a Test • Students can only work on the project at school. This includes any student in cyber school or a student who is homeschooled. • Students must have a monitor (Test Administrator) to sign them into the website and remain present while they work on the project. • The monitor can be an aide. • Tutors are assigned to each student and should be certified in the content area.

  10. The Project is a Test (Continued) • Tutors cannot actually help students with the content of the project. • Tutors can point students toward practice problems in the eligible content and provide some remediation based on student need in a particular area. • The tutor must review the project at set checkpoints and “sign off” on the project before it is sent to the state for scoring.
