  3. Categories in the Food Pyramid • Grains • Vegetables • Fruits • Milk/ Dairy • Meat and Beans *Oils (Not a food group, but often included in diet)

  4. Grains • Daily Recommended Amount: 6 ounces with at least half of them whole grains • Examples of grains: • Bread • Noodles • Cereal • Oatmeal • Rice

  5. Vegetables • Daily Recommended Amount: 2 ½ cups in various types of vegetables • Examples of Vegetables: • Lettuce • Corn • Carrots • Broccoli • Green Beans

  6. Fruits • Daily Recommended Amount: 1 ½ cups • Examples of Fruits: • Apples • Grapes • Oranges • Tomatoes • Pears

  7. Milk and Dairy • Daily Recommended Amount: 3 cups • Examples of Milk and Dairy: • Milk • Cheese • Yogurt

  8. Meat and Beans • Daily Recommended Amount: 5 ounces, (try to eat lean meats) • Examples: • Ham • Eggs • Peanut Butter • Fish • Beans (red, black, etc.)

  9. Fats and Oils • This category is not considered a food group in the new food pyramid • Some fats and oils are needed for health • Examples of fats and oils to eat for health: • Oil from fish • Oil from nuts • Liquid oil • Canola oil • Soybean oil • Corn oil
