  1. Joranvan der Sloot

  2. Moved to Aruba at 16 Grew up in affluent household Has two younger brothers An honors student • Wealthy family • Born in Arenhem, Netherlands • Mother was a socialite and a school teacher • Father was a respected judge Background

  3. The murder of Natalee Holloway was Joran’s first crime. He has only been charged with the crime. If he were to come to the US, he would be sentenced. Criminal history

  4. Years after the investigation was closed, Joran was caught on tape admitting to killing Holloway. Joran was the last one seen with Holloway leaving a night club the night of her disappearance. After being found guilty to the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, more evidence was shown that he also murdered Natalee Holloway. Evidence

  5. “I was very scared and confused during the interrogations and wanted to get away. In my blind panic, I signed everything, but didn’t even know what it said.” Retracts his Confession

  6. Joran van der Sloot’s criminal behavior can best be matched with the social control theory. This theory matches Sloot because he may be rebelling against society. He came from a wealthy family, and his parents were well known and respected in the community. It was expected for Sloot to be a “good” kid. At the time of Natalee Holloway’s disappearance, Sloot was excelling in school, and had many friends. Some of his friends, however, may have been a bad influence on him. Sociological Theory

  7. I think Joran van der Sloot should not be rehabilitated. I think he should simply be punished for his crimes. I do not think he should be rehabilitated because he brutally killed two young women. Also, he murdered Ramirez five years after the murder of Holloway. This shows that Jordan van der Sloot had not changed in that time period. I do not think it would be safe to let him live in society. Punished for Crimes
