  2. Characters • Ebenezer Scrooge- mean and greedy businessman • Fred- Scrooge’s caring, loving nephew. • Bob Cratchit- meek and mild employ of Scrooge • Tiny Tim- Bob’s crippled son

  3. More Characters Ghost of Christmas Past- Illuminates Scrooge’s past • Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come- Shows Scrooge’s doomed fate • Ghost of Christmas Present- jolly, giving spirit who lives on Christmas day only

  4. Setting • London, England in 1843

  5. Conflict • External Conflict • The struggle Scrooge has with the Spirits. • Internal Conflict • The emotional struggle Scrooge has in himself to change.

  6. Plot • Exposition • We are told Jacob Marley is dead. We also meet Scrooge and see how mean and greedy he is to everyone. • Rising Action • Marley’s Ghost appears to Scrooge and warns him to change or be forever tormented. • Scrooge is visited by three Spirits to educate him so he can change.

  7. Plot • Climax • The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come shows Scrooge his and Tiny Tim’s future. Scrooge is so moved he vows to change. • Falling Action • Scrooge awakes in his room on Christmas Day. He dances around, buys a turkey for the Cratchit’s, goes to his nephews for Christmas dinner, and raises Bob’s salary.

  8. Plot • Resolution • Scrooge changes his greedy ways and saves Tiny Tim’s as well as his own life.

  9. Mood/Tone/Atmosphere • Happy at the parties and when Scrooge changes. • Sad when Scrooge is dumped and Tiny Time dies. • Scary when the 2 children and Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come are in the scene.

  10. Point of View • The point of view is mostly 3rd person like someone reading a story to his audience. • But every once in a while, the narrator will break 3rd person and talk directly to the reader with the pronoun “I.” So, some 1st person is present.

  11. Themes and Topics • Topics • Some topics in this book were: • Greed • Poverty • Societal Responsibility • Themes • One who is greedy will die alone. • The poor need help not judgment. • With great power and wealth comes great responsibility to one’s society.
