Degree in Multidisciplinary Sciencesecond cohort of teachers begins

  11. 2002 1st TTU/HHMI Grant; Phase IV for $2 million, Larry Blanton PI/PD with $1.2 million matching from TTU, establishing the Center for the Integration of Science Education and Research (CISER) 266 total Undergraduate Research and Science Education Fellows presented their research at 248 professional meetings Research Days expands to include CASNR and the College of Engineering with a record 82 total presentations Dr. Roman Taraban begins as the TTU/HHMI Assessment Coordinator Traveling Labs visit 40 schools traveling 25,000 miles to serve 8,000 students Program office and science education classroom space allocated to CISER in the planning of the new College of Education building

  12. 2003 TTU/HHMI Phase IV grant gives TTU the most received in grant funds from HHMI for Texas TTU/HHMI FATHER, John Burns, returns as Program Director with 278 Undergraduate Fellows with 60 journal publications 26 TTU High School Clark Scholars have continued as TTU/HHMI Research Fellows to date 1st TTU/HHMI Research Mentor Summit as mentor pool expands TTU has had 21 Goldwater Scholars, 18 have been TTU/HHMI Undergraduate Research Fellows TTU/HHMI and DBS created and began the Introduction to Biomedical Research course

  13. 2004 289 Undergraduate Fellows presented at 260 professional meetings 1st TTU Junction Campus Annual Fellow Retreat TTU/HHMI Student Research Days expanded to include College of Human Sciences SACNAS 1st student Chapter in the nation begins Teacher Small Grants Program awarded 44 teachers, reaching 9,000 students to date Science Days attended by 800 teachers and 1,600 students to date, with many events lead by TTU/HHMI Scholars and Mentors 5 TTU/HHMI Teacher Partners do summer research at TTU

Multidisciplinary Teachers begins, over 50 total get their Masters TTU/HHMI Curriculum Development Teams begin Science Teacher Academy @ CISER begins Kids in Physics with David Lamp begins

  15. 2006 5th TTU/HHMI Grant; Phase V for $1.5 million, Michael San Francisco PI/PD with $1.4 million matching from TTU, Technology Scholars Program begins (Fellows to Scholars) 1st CISER Conference “To Think and Act Like a Scientist” resulting in the book, Creating Effective Undergraduate Research Programs Michael San Francisco begins as Program Director 1st Talkmitt Motivator Award given by TTU/HHMI Scholar Service Organization TTU SACNAS partners with Comanche Nation College

  16. 2007 345 Undergraduate Scholars presenting at 284 professional meetings, 22 Goldwater Scholars CISER publicity, annual assessments, and resource-sharing moves to a state-of-the-art, single-source SharePoint Web Technology CISER gets the Texas Regional Collaborative Grant GLOBE site started by CISER and Interim Chancellor, Don Haragan CISER teachers win all outstanding teacher awards at the STAT state conference (CAST) CISER partners with new TTU T-STEM Center CISER adds a third Traveling Lab Program van, “traveling the frontiers of science and stopping or teachers”

  17. 2008 375 Scholars with 90 journal publications and presented at 300 professional meetings, Lou Densmore becomes Program Director 16 Graduate Teaching, Technology, and Post-Doc Scholars to date CISER website wins top award at regional Pod CastCompetition, Melody Wainscott, CISER Technical Communicator NSF Plains Bridges to Baccalaureate Grant Program, West Texas Association for Women in Science (WT-AWIS) and the Center for Undergraduate Research (CUR) partnerships with CISER begin CISER gets a Texas High School Project Exemplar Grant

  18. 2009 400 Undergraduate Scholars with 100 journal publications 35 Scholars presented at professional meetings Research Days becomes the Texas Tech Undergraduate Research Conference (URC) hosted by CISER, CUR and Honors College Haragan Lecture Series hosts HHMI Director, Tom Cech Teacher Grants to 7 teachers for travel to state and national meetings and 25 Small Grants for Equipment Science Ed Scholars start Math Club at a local elementary school 2 TTU/HHMI Teacher Research Partners work with research mentors CISER leads in the development of the T-STEM FRAME Engineering Design Model

  19. 2010 1st TTU/HHMI Phase V Grant Extension for $1 million, 1 of 5 given by HHMI to long running Programs, Lou Densmore, Program Director 53 Scholars supported who presented at 32 state, national and international professional meetings 1st TTU SACNAS Regional Conference lead by student officers 1st WE Fund Scholar Research Award by Alumnus CISER awards CUR with $50,000 each year until 2013 for support of undergraduate research Teacher Small Grants awarded to 10 area teachers for equipment and 2 as Summer Research Teacher STEM Partners Scholar receives the Outstanding Science Teacher Award for Texas CISER implements first pre-college poster competition for the Texas High School Project Best Practices Conference

  21. 2012 32 Graduate Teaching, Technology, Doctoral and Post-Doc Scholars to date 502 Undergraduate Scholars to date with 106 journal publications, 34 first authors and 293 non-TTU abstracts 3 Teach for America Scholars to date CISER becomes the Center for Undergraduate STEM Education and Research, thanks to Dean Scott Ridley CUR primary host for the Undergraduate Research Conference with 180+ presenters from everywhere CISER’s future is so bright we have to wear SHADES!
