  5. What we have learned • Issues of accountability and credibility • To young people • To politicians • To self (as young person, youth worker or trainer) • To funders

  6. What we have learned • What do we want to be recognised for? • Standards achieved • Competencies demonstrated • Distance travelled – personal growth • Contributions made – to society, communities, organisations and individuals • Etc etc

What we have learned • What is recorded? • Skills,, knowledge, experience, achievements • Values, attitudes, behaviours • More or less context specific • How do we know what to record? • Personal aspirations – what’s important to me • Stakeholder needs • Occupational profiling/Functional analysis • 360 degree consultation

  8. What we have learned • That recognition is a process - Life long and life wide • That recognition in the non formal sector is relational – it’s a two-way process

  9. Where we’re going Towards a common language… • that will be understood by… Ourselves, Politicians, Employers, Formal Education etc etc • that will enable/facilitate… Accountability, Inclusion, RECOGNITION

  10. Where we’re going • Towards securing more resources by… • Analysing the benefits and costs • Communicating the benefits • Using the right language for the right stakeholders • Building bridges of recognition and recognition of bridges • Becoming translators and interpreters

  11. SEXY • Self assessment comes first • Examples of good practice exist in the non formal sector and in other sectors • eXtra resources are always needed • You are part of the way forward
