Reconstruction (’63) ’65-’77Cameron S. and Cameron C. • 13th, 14thand 15th Amendments- • 13th-No form of human slavery • 14th-No state may do anything without consoling its citizens • 15th-Gave colored men he right to vote • Jim Crow Laws- Laws about colored people about what they and what places they could go and what they could do

Reconstruction (cont.) • KKK- a secret society of white Southerners in the United States; was formed in the 19th century to resist the emancipation of slaves; used terrorist tactics to suppress black people • Scalawags- People who were southern whites who supported Reconstruction and the Republican Party after the American Civil War • Carpetbaggers- A northerner who went to the south and tried to become a republican politician especially during Reconstruction times

Gilded Age1877-1898 (Mark Twain & Charles Dudley Warner)Patrick H and Ryan D • Economic growth-American economy nearly doubled in size from the end of Reconstruction in 1877 to the Panic of 1893 • Robber barons or industrialists?-Wealthy and powerful 19th-century American businessmen; John Jacob Astor, Andrew Carnegie, William A. Clark • Labor unions-The Gilded Age was a period of horrific labor violence, as industrialists and workers literally fought over control of the workplace • New immigration-During the Gilded Age, approximately 10 million immigrants came to the United States in what is known as the new immigration • New Technologies-The United States became a world leader in applied technology

Imperialism 1898-1914Hayden Y and Kyle B • Alfred Thayer Mahan – a naval strategist, historian, and advocate of an extremely powerful U.S. Navy • Spanish-American War- What happened when America got involved with the Cuban Revolution from Spain • Panama Canal- Canal between the Atlantic through the Caribbean to the Pacific

  8. World War I 1914-1919Sean F. and Adam M. • Lusitania- A ship destroyed by the Germans that killed 128 Americans, when the Americans were neutral in the war. This Increased tension between America and Germany. • Central Powers vs. Allies- A ship destroyed by the Germans that killed 128 Americans, when the Americans were neutral in the war. This Increased tension between America and Germany. • New weapons of warfare- Some were Zeppelins, tanks, planes, etc. • 14 Points & Versaille-1918-A statement made by Woodrow Wilson that World War 1 was being fought for peace in Europe. • Return to Normalcy- How people returned to their regular life after the war.
