  1. BERLIN 2012 Welcome to the History and Languages Visit to Berlin 2012 - Introductory talk. This is a very exciting time as this is the first time we’ve offered a visit to Berlin. The 4 day visit is designed to support your child’s GCSE studies, both linguistically and historically, as well as a chance to experience another language and culture. The visit will run every two years and will run alternately with our Ethics and Philosophy visit to Rome. I hope you find this evening valuable and I will answer as many questions as I can at the end. Berlin...

  2. BERLIN 2012 DAY ONE – Tuesday 3rd Aril 2012 05.15 Depart Woodlands School. We’re off! Coach transfer to E. Midlands Airport. 09.30 Depart EMA (Ryanair or Easyjet) 12.25 E.T.A. Berlin Schonefeld Airport. 14.30 Visit to The Brandenburg Gate. http://www.berlin-landmarks.com/brandenburg_gate.html During our transfer from Schonefeld Airport to the Hotel Ibis we will travel through central Berlin, across Pottsdam Square with its traces of BerlinWall, past the enormous Holocaust Memorial to arrive at the Brandenburg Gate - the focal point of the celebrations at the fall of the Berlin Wall. 17.30 E.T.A. Hotel Ibis. Check in & allocate room keys. 19.30 Dinner at the ‘DerUlte Fritz’ Restaurant. www.der-alte-fritz.de 21.00 Hotel Ibis. 21.30 SLEEP!

BERLIN 2012 DAY TWO – Wednesday 4th April 08.30 Breakfast. 09.30 Sightseeing Coach Tour of Berlin Part 1 Includes: Reichstag Building, PottsdamSquare , remains of the Berlin Wall, Soviet War Memorial , a view of the former entrance to Hitler's bunker and the former Gestapo Headquarters. 11.30 Visit to The Berlin Jewish Museum. The Berlin Jewish Museum was designed by Daniel Libeskind. http://www.jmberlin.de/main/EN/01-Exhibitions/00-exhibitions.php 13.00 Lunch at the Jewish Museum. 14.15 Visit to The Checkpoint Charlie Museum. Checkpoint Charlie is the lookout point where American & Russian tanks faced each other across a narrow section of No Man's Land. http://www.mauermuseum.de/english/frame-index-mauer.html

  4. BERLIN 2012 DAY TWO continued 16.30 Visit to The KaiserWilhelm Memorial Church. A new church was built in 1961, next to the ruins. Inside there is a moving depiction of the Madonna and Child drawn by a German doctor shortly before Christmas 1942 at the seige of Stalingrad. Berlin style. 19.00 Dinner at a restaurant in the Kurfursendamn. 21.30 Return to the hotel 22.00 SLEEP!

  5. BERLIN 2012 DAY THREE – Thursday 5th April 2012 08.30 Breakfast and then leave to go to Oranienburg. 11.00 E.T.A. Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. http://www.stiftung-bg.de/gums/en/index.htm An emotional visit includes a film in one of the barrack blocks, the Tour Director will give an explanation of the camp as well as providing maps & instructions to get the most out of the visit. 13.30 Lunch in Potsdam. 16.00 Visit to TheWannsee Villa. http://www.ghwk.de/engl/kopfengl.htm It was here on January 20th 1942 ReinhardHeydrichintroduced ‘the Final Solution’. Today the villa is a place of remembrance with a photograph exhibition outlining the consequences of the meeting that took place in this idyllic location. 18.00 Dinner at Sudstern Brewery Restaurant in Berlin. 20.30 Return to the hotel in time to go bowling. 22.00 SLEEP!

BERLIN 2012 DAY FOUR – Friday 6th April 2012 08.30 Breakfast & loading of suitcases onto coach. 09.30 Sightseeing Coach Tour of Berlin Part 2 10.15 The Allied Museum http://www.alliiertenmuseum.de/ Looks at life in the Cold War and Germany’s history between 1945 and 1990. 11.30 The Reichstag http://www.bundestag.de/htdocs_e/index.html One of Germany’s most iconic buildings which destroyed by a suspicious fire in 1933 is now home to its parliament (the Bundestag) again. One not to miss. 13.00 Coach transfer to Berlin Schonefeld Airport. 14.00 E.T.A. Berlin Schonefeld Airport. Commence check in. 17.05 Depart Berlin SchonefeldAirport. 18.05 E.T.A. East Midlands Airport. 19.00 Coach transfer to Woodlands School. 20.00 E.T.A. Woodlands School. We’re back!

BERLIN 2012 • The price of £600.00 is a fully inclusive visit which includes the following: • Flights and transfers • Hotel accommodation • Breakfast, lunch and evening meals. • Guided tours • Bowling • Baggage and airport fees • We suggest that your child should bring some pocket money to spend at the airport, in the • museum, to buy some snacks (these are teenagers after all!) and of course a present or two for you. • What next...
