  4. Strategy • 475 visits by candidates • Huntsman’s final stand- Spent the most time there • Romney has strong support being from Massachusetts (predicted to win) • Gingrich & Santorum didn’t spend a lot of time

  6. The Last Week • Santorum’s success in Iowa bumped him a bit in polls this week • Romney holding strong to a 20 point lead • Ron Paul still pulling strongly with young moderates

  8. Delegates • Typically 23 delegates • Were only given 12 because they moved primary up • 7 are pledged to Romney • 3 are pledged to Paul

  9. How did people vote? • Economy was the biggest issue • 45% of the voters were independents- found Romney the most electable • Fiscal vs. Social conservative

Ticket to Ride! • Mitt Romney became the first GOP candidate to win both Iowa and New Hampshire (the Iowa win was later rescinded • Huntsman’s 3rd place finish was considered successful enough to continue (He later dropped out before the next primary • After two poor performances, Rick Perry would also drop out before the SC Primary

What does this mean? • Romney is carrying momentum into the rest of the primaries • Originally the primary showed the nomination is looking like Mitt vs. Not-Mitt • The finalized count in Iowa followed by Gingrich’s surge in South Carolina changed that • Mitt Romney’s win shows his potential strength in an election
