  2. Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine • University of Pikeville Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (UP-KYCOM) is the 19th school of osteopathic medicine in the country. • Our school’s mission is to produce physicians to serve the people of this region.

  3. Appalachian – “Medicine in the Mountains” • Demographic and economic data reveal rates higher than state and national levels for: • unemployment • work disability • poverty • Medicaid • number of uninsured

  6. 2013-2014 Membership Members: Fourth Year Students- 20 Third Year Students- 20 Second Year Students- 34 Total: 74 Members Requirements: 85% average and above average number of service hours

ΣΣΦ Requirements • Each member in the Sigma chapter is must maintain above average academic scholarship in addition to completion of 30 hours of community service a year. • We encourage each of our members to achieve a T.O.U.C.H. pin (50 hours) • Two opportunities for acceptance into Sigma chapter • After fall semester (accept 25) • After spring semester (accept 9)

  8. 2013 Graduation

  9. Relay For Life 2013 • In our eighth year participating with Relay for Life, Team KYCOMbating Cancer raised over $1,900. • We tie-dyed t-shirts an hosted a balloon dart toss to sell as an additional fundraiser throughout the evening.

  10. Medical Mission Trip to BateyNueve, Dominican Republic • This year KYCOM students helped raise enough money to send students to a small town in the Dominican Republic. • The team collected pharmaceuticals and medical equipment in order to set up a clinic and pharmacy in the community.

  12. Alzheimer’s Memory Walk • Our KYCOM team collected student donations, sponsored $2 dress down days for both classes, had a quilt raffle, and hosted a dodge ball tournament to serve as our major fundraisers.

Future Sigma Chapter Activities • Sandy Valley Habitat for Humanity • Holiday dinner drive and packaging • Animal Shelter volunteering • Nursing home volunteering • New member induction - March 2014 • Officer transitions- April 2014 • Graduation and Rose Sale - May 2014 • Relay for Life – June 2014, fundraising all year • Additional New member induction – July 2014
