September 14 – AP Lit Agenda: • Story time! • Group work: Apply your critical lens • Report back to the class Homework: • Write a 1 page analysis of JE from your critical perspective (submit to turnitin.com by midnight, Sunday) It’s story Time - Come sit up front! Take out: • Pen/Pencil • Notebook (with information about critical lenses) Goals: • Effectively apply the critical lens that you studied

The Giving Tree • Work with your group to analyze the story • Think about: • What you read – how did scholars in the critical field approach their criticism of lit • How you can approach the story, characters, author, etc. • Using your critical lens, draw conclusions and make connections about the text • Use evidence from the book to support your conclusions • EVERYONE should have a written analysis of the story in their notes • You will be expected to share with the class (so they can take notes as well!)

Back to Jane Eyre • Now approach our novel in the same way • Think about: • What you read – how did scholars in the field approach their criticism of lit • How you can approach the story, characters, author, etc. • Conclusions that can be drawn about all of the above • Evidence from the book for your conclusions • Before you leave, I want you to have AT LEAST preliminary lists of the following things: • Things that could be focused on through your lens (author, characters, situations, etc.) • Conclusions that could be drawn (think of them like hypotheses) with evidence that supports them • Hint: The end of each article gives you a couple of in-roads into the story • Homework: Write a brief (1 page) analysis of ONE PART (author, character, situation, etc.) of Jane Eyre from the perspective of your critical lens.
