He was forced to pick a white name, wear white clothes, and cut his hair as the white men did. He was taught by the schools of the white men and told to speak the way they did too. Though he assimilated well, after a while it was forced and wrong. Ohiyesa became Charles Eastman after spending a long time in the white culture.

Your job is to make a statement about worker safety based on the Massey Mining articles. • Create a detailed, 1-panel political cartoon that reflects the key ideas from the two articles you read. Be sure to include labels, captions, and a title. It should be clear when viewing your finished cartoon what your message is and what you learned about the Massey mining disaster.
