  8. Describe a polite person.

He had decent table manners. He arranged everyone to the right seat. As you know, there are complicated seating rules for Chinese meals. He knew how to put people in their right positions according to different criteria. He also paid attention to not sticking chopsticks upright in the rice bowl. Either could not the chopsticks tap the bowl for sound, as they were showing no respect to the host. He did quite well in obeying these manners and also reminded other guests to do so.

He used polite words frequently in life. "Thank you" ranked as the top one on his politeness expression list with "excuse me" and "sorry" following behind. For one time, I remembered that he said "Excuse me, sorry, thank you" at one go when he tried to pass by a stranger on the road. When I asked him later, he answered that he was not aware of that at all because it was just too normal for him to notice.

He also respected others' privacy much. He would walk steps away when hearing someone was phoning. He also spoke softly in public places in case that others were disturbed. Besides, he would never speak others' secrets out so that we all enjoyed sharing talks with him. Sometimes I would talk with him about my troubles with families, friends or even my boyfriend. He always comforted me with good advice. I did think he was a considerate secret keeper.

  12. Describe an old person

  13. Describe an interesting country (not yours). You should say: Which the country is; How you know the country; What you know about the country; and explain why you think this country is interesting.

Its exotic scenary and customs are quite outstanding. Its tropical location makes it a paradise for diverse plants and flowers, which I could even not name. Compared with the climate of my hometown, being extremely cold in winter, I feel quite comfortable there. There are also local people wearing typical national clothes on the street. It seems that theses people themselves have been a special attraction. Tourists can have an overview of this country without any further exploration.

Local food is another factor which attracts me. With the climatic advantage, various tropic fruits there are quite fresh and tasty. Since I have tried the durain, the pineapple and the mango and various berry fruits, I cannot even eat my hometown's imported fruits any more. As their fruits are adequate, most dishes there are made of fruits. For example, there is one typical main dish called "pineapple rice", which is filling rice in a hollow pineapple to cook. It is one of my most memorable dishes in Thailand.

I make several new friends when travelling there. Since I went there alone, I prefer to talk with strangers and travel with them. During my trip, I made a Japanese friend and an American one. We also promised to visit each other in the future. I am glad I have international friends.

  18. Describe a seaside city

  19. Describe your ideal job. You should say: What should it be; Where do you want to take it; How long will you work per day; and explain whether this event is influential.

  20. First of all, the most attractive thing about being a teacher is I can enjoy two long holidays per year, the one-month winter holiday and the over-two-month summer holiday. It is probably because I do not desire for money much that I never list the salary as the first element to consider when choosing a job. On the contrary, I prefer the posts not to occupy much private time. A teacher can promise more personal time because schools end early.

  21. Secondly, I think the primary education is far more meaningful than what people think and deserves more than what have been done. A common phenomenon in school now is that children’s workload becomes heavier. It does have relations with parents’ strict requirements. But I think it must be tackled first from school educators. They should not pay attention to students’ marks but to students’ mental health. For a primary school student, the most significant thing is to play happily and laugh heavily. Compulsory education needs reforms. I wish to make efforts on it.

  22. Describe an event in history.

  23. "Princess Wencheng married with Tibetan leader" 1. to Tang Dynasty 2. to Tibetan (politics, economy, culture)

  24. Describe a school subject you dislike. You should say: what this subject is; what it is about; when you have this subject; and explain why you dislike this subject.

Physics is what I dislike most because all the academic theories and rules are too difficult for me. From the beginning learning when the teacher asked us to memorise those stable theories, I found that I could not remember well. As I learnt further, I found that I was not able to use them to do exercises or apply them in practical life. In other words, I do not see any meaning about studying this subject.

I am not so interested in this subject because I had a bad impression on it. My father is a sicence addictor who always do small scientific experiments at home. But his left arm was injured at one experiment due to chemical explosion. I then made up my mind not to study these scientific subjects in the future. So I show no interests in physics.

My physics teacher's teaching is dull (not interesting) and he is always partial to excellent students. His teaching is always reading the books and talking to the blackboard instead of making interaction with students. Plus, he only pays attention to excellent students and never takes care of poor students like me. My confidence and interest in this subject is too hard to build.

  28. Describe a/an letter/email you received.
