Flex - Homeroom • Attendance and announcements *Flex is at the end of 4th Period. *Attendance is taken during 1st period. • Excuse if absent or late—Can do it online. • Early dismissal—notes go directly to the office. • FLEX: Developmentally Appropriate Activities for Middle Level kids • Social, Emotional and Academics • Students should have a novel at all times • Not to be used as a study hall but kids can get help or enrichment as needed. • Specific activities will be led by teachers • (Tutoring, LEAD, Tech Help, etc.) • Not a time for using their phones.

Weekly Schedule • Tuesday • LEAD • Olweus & Team Activities during homeroom • Tuesday and Thursday • Homework Hub • Any student may stay • Quiet place to work • Adult supervision • High School students • Ride home on the Activity Bus • Math Tutoring • After School in Library – Either Tuesday or Thursday • Beginning Soon • Every Friday before School (Room 210) • 1 Day a week during FLEX time • All students are permitted and encouraged to attend.

UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES Drug Testing for Activities~ Drug testing will be offered on Thursday, September 19, 2019 immediately after school in the middle school for anyone participating in a school activity. Drug tests require a Drug Testing Consent Form and $30, which should be turned into the main office no later than Tuesday, September 17. Only one initial drug test is required per school year. Forms are available in the main office or on the Athletics & Activities website. PAJAMA RAMA – For the young ladies!!! October 4 from 6:00pm-8:00pm Activities this year : dodgeball, bracelet making, nail painting, face painting, karaoke and a dance party! Attire is pajamas or sweats. Student sign-up sheets will be in homeroom . Sign up by Wednesday, October 2. MAIN EVENT , THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7  -  : Open to all Grade 7 Boys from 6-8:00 PM.    Many of the male teachers get together with the boys to play dodgeball, basketball, and many other activities.  A GREAT EVENT TO ATTEND.

WORLD HISTORY *What to expect • Homework • Once or twice/week • Worth 5 points. • No late homework accepted b/c we go over it in class the next day • Usually some type of project or writing assessment • Tests are given at the end of each unit. • Always have plenty of notice. • Folders • Collection of all papers from the unit • Collected the day of the test.

  20. Primary Source Interview Interview with a member of the family if at all possible. Grandparent or Great-Grandparent (or someone of that generation) Guided questions to hear their “story.” Assigned before Thanksgiving and due after Winter Break (just so they can see family) Doesn’t actually take that long.

HEALTH ASSESSMENTS & PROJECTS • SOS (Signs Of Suicide) – Co -Taught with Guidance – Mrs. North • Two-day curriculum • Evidence-based prevention program • Co-taught with Guidance Counselor • **Our goal is to help students recognize the symptoms of depression or warning signs of suicide in themselves or their friends and teach them the appropriate action steps they should take to get help. The purpose of this program is not to tell whether students are depressed, but rather inform them about whether they, or their friends, may have symptoms that need further evaluation • Life Skills Training Program Grant • A research-based prevention program • Exemplary program promoted by many governmental agencies and health organizations
