  5. Students will get schedules today • Students take 4 core classes per year: Language Arts, Math, Science & Social Studies. • Students take 4 semesters of electives per year. They rotate on an A-Day/B-Day basis. All students take PE/Health for a semester. • Enrichment daily from 3:45pm – 4:15pm • Homework zone, study hall, relooping, reading time, global education, “Teen Time” BLOCK SCHEDULE

Arrival – not before 8:45am (b-fast $1.25) • Lockers (rental fee and form come home day one) • First Block – Academics • Snack the last ten minutes (working, healthy snack) • Second Block – Electives • Third Block – Academics • Lunch with 3rd block teacher beginning at 1:15pm • Fourth Block – Academics • Enrichment – Dismissal @ 4:15pm A Typical Day AT Our “House”

Will only be done for clear errors in LA and/or Math placement** • An error with Band/Orchestra • An error with EC/Inclusion • All requests MUST be placed in writing to the grade level counselor (amy.jurusik@cms.k12.nc.us) • Elective change requests will result in your child being placed on a Wait List SCHEDULE CHANGES

  9. Protecting class time for ALL students is a top priority. To limit interruptions, please send a note with your child indicating the time you will arrive; have your child bring the note directly to the office. Minimize “deliveries” (homework, lunches) Please be prompt. Call the GLA for emergency situations HONORING ACADEMIC TIME

  10. Students must be in the classroom from bell to bell. Please no early dismissals after 3:45pm Tardies will not be acceptable – any block; on third unexcused tardy, consequences will begin Allow time for Traffic – if late, you will have to park and come in HONORING ACADEMIC TIME

Visitor badges • Students only released to person on emergency card • School-Wide Discipline Plan • Rights and Responsibilities Handbook enforced equitably • Dress Code – no racerback tanks* • Cell Phone/Electronics Policy (BYOT*) • Tardy Policy • Bus Expectations HONORING DISCIPLINE, ORDER AND SAFETY

  13. Extracurricular Activities Offered: Sports (not until 7th grade) Fine Arts Band/Orchestra Chess Club, OEX, NAL, Science Olympiad, Math Counts, Battle of the Books – KIDS need to listen to AM Announcements for info We want your child to get involved CHMS – Get Involved!!

  14. Stay involved in your child’s education Provide a quiet space for homework Help with organizational skills – especially A day/B day Be sure they get adequate rest and a well-balanced diet Make time to listen Relish small successes How Can I Help My Pre-Teen?

  15. Monitor the internet Sudden personality changes Change in eating habits Refusal to eat Withdrawn Monitor peer selection – set limits – be careful with “you can’t hang out with…” Monitor cell phone usage/texts Call Ms. Jurusik or Mr. Neumann with any concerns Should I Watch Out for Anything?

Medication forms – see Angela Stewart in the office or our school nurse, Mary Luccia (M, R, every other T) • School Supply lists – if any additional supplies are needed, teachers will let you know • T dap Immunization by 9/24*** • Welcome Week Dance • PTO packet – Capital Campaign • Not collecting money until August 28th • Drama and Orchestra will be in A14 • Spanish and Journalism will be in A7 • All PE/Health teachers will be in the media center • PE Uniforms and spirit wear on sale in the aux gym – school spirit day on August 29 • Carvel in lobby • Make sure your child knows how he/she is getting home tomorrow • Morrison YMCA bus is 1691 request a stop for your child online A few last notes…
