  1. budget How to for your wedding We have all heard stories about weddings that go over budget. Lavish affairs that leave couples near destitute and paying off debts for years to come. To avoid this kind of catastrophe when it comes to your own nuptials, we have compiled the following guide to help couples actually stick to (or at least arrive in the vicinity) of their wedding budgets. What is your dream wedding? No two weddings are ever the same. And no two couples ever have the exact same vision (or budget for that matter), for their big day. First of all, you need to decide as a couple the kind of wedding that you want i.e. size, style, theme, timing. Then consider how this relates to the amount of funds you have available. Whether it be beachside rendezvous or all the bells and whistles, defining your dream day wedding vision is necessary to know what you will be budgeting for.. The dollars for your dream day Some couples save for many years for their ‘perfect wedding.’ Others decide they don’t want to wait and are happy to forego some of the fanfare in order to tie the knot without breaking the bank. Once you have identified the type of wedding you want, it is important to assess whether the figures match up. Consider things like how long before your big day and how much you are able to save between now and then, who else will be contributing and how much? Once you have calculated your total wedding bank balance, it’s time to start deciding how that total sum will be best spent.

  2. Get real about the Guest List The number of people you invite to your wedding will have one of the biggest impacts on your budget for the big day. More guests means more money so make sure you think long and hard about inviting Great Aunt Mildred, or those friends you haven’t actually spent time with in the past decade, if it means sacrificing important elements of your nuptials. Re-evaluate – going back to the drawing board So your budget doesn’t exactly match your dream day vision and once you’ve paid for your essential wedding elements, you’ll be walking down the aisle in a hand-me-down gown, with a salad bar reception. This means its time to re-evaluate, compromise and again prioritize. Look at components of your wedding that can be changed to be more cost-effective, without losing the key elements that are most important to you. Investigate whether there are opportunities for DIY, or any opportunities to use the skills and talents of friends and guests, so you can save money in some areas, to allow for a little splurge in others.
