  2. Simile • A comparison between two unlike things, usually with the words like or as. Example: The bodybuilder was as strong as a bull.

  3. Metaphor • A comparison between two unlike things. Example: The quarterback threw a missile.

  4. Hyperbole • An exaggerated statement used to heighten effect. Example: She made me wait for like 300 hours.

  5. Personification • Giving human qualities to an animal, an object, or an idea. Example: “The wind was screaming." The wind cannot scream. Only a living thing can scream.

  6. Onomatopoeia • A word that describes a sound • Example: snap, crack, bam, pow, bang

  7. Alliteration • The repetition of a particular sound in the first syllables of a series of words or phrases. • Example: “She sells sea-shells down by the sea-shore” or • “Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Pickled Peppers”
