  2. Rules for comparisons: • add „-er” to the end of each adjective  schneller, kleiner, moderneru.s.w. • for almost every 1-syllable adjective, add an umlaut to the first vowel  älter, größer, kürzer, jünger, längeru.s.w.

  3. Superlatives A superlative is the term used to describe an adjective in its most extreme form: the fastest am schnellsten the oldest am ältesten the smallest am kleinsten the biggest am größten

  4. Rules for superlatives: • add „-sten” to the end of each adjective  am schnellsten, am kleinsten, am billigstenu.s.w. • however, if an adjective ends in: –s, –ß, –ss, –x, –z, –sch, –d, –t ; add „-esten”  am intelligentesten, am ältesten, am kältestenu.s.w. Note: groß is an exception  größer, am größten

  7. Comparing things:  use the word „als” for „ than” Frank istgrößerals James. Karl ist doofer als Steffi. Berlin istkälterals Hamburg. Bonn istwärmerals Wien. Now, in your books write 5 – 10 sentences comparing people or things. Be creative!
