  1. Financial Status (FS):UK • £7.5M commitment OST+PPARC+CCLRC • £750k working margin (wm:10% attributed to UK tasks) • £1.5M contingency (OST control) • £9.7M • Spend to date is light (<£1.5M) • Rapidly changing • Move from design to manufacture

  2. FS:UK • Task budget break down: • Control of scope: • PSAG/CMPB/PPARC-OsC

  3. FS:UK • Calls on UK contingency: • Oct’05: £720k for solenoid cryogenics • £287k over budget (despite guide price) • re-evaluated cooling budget; • freed £200k (but kept original c&wm : risk) • £90k call on contingency (plus £43k from wm) • Accepted by PPARC: funds drawn from OST • Done under change control (interim CMPB) • painful process • needed effort and caused delay! • Lesson learnt: danger of single response tenders

  4. FS:UK • Potential calls on UK contingency: • Shielding • Cause: escalation of requirement over plan (negotiating) • Remedy: Shielding available on site at DL • (RAL’s sister laboratory) • negotiations in progress • Unbudgeted items: • Steering magnets, Q35 refurb. (~£50k within wm on BL) • Note: Achieved £50k saving on import of decay solenoid from PSI – kept within beam line budget. • Staff: • Additional local DAQ effort needed • Potential extra because of stretch of phase 1.

  5. Additional Contributions:UK • Risk Reduction: • £92k additional funds to help tracker solenoid: End-of-year (WFL) funds • Mechanism: UK paid for items in US & Jp budget: need to realise benefit • US: released existing MRI funds ; • Jp: Bid • £30k risk borne by ISIS for phase 2 • Procure tube bases for RF power source

  6. Current Procurement:UK • Cryogenics for decay solenoid (on order) • Hydride bed (on order) • RF test stand HV system (parts in build) • RF test stand solid state amplifier (on order) • Tubes for the test stand driver (300kW) amplifier  • Beam line power supplies (tender posted) • Cryo-coolers for 4 tracker VLPC cryostats  • Parts for VLPC cryostats - commit through FNAL  • Fibre (clear and scintillating)  • Tube bases for RF TH116 (about to order) - Phase 2

  7. FS:UK • Phase 2: unfunded • Baseline plan has been seen by the PPARC-Science committee • Infrastructure (RF power, hydrogen systems) • Focus Coil module, completed tracker • “£3.3M” • Additional aspirations/synergies • Contribution to cavity: • Engineering, surface treatments 'Official' G/W 2/3, SC, and Council statement: "Phase 2: To be completed in financial years 2007/08 to 2008/09: ― Construction of UK contributions (infrastructure, focus-coil modules and the full tracker) to the subsequent stages of the full experiment (£3.3M)."

  8. FS:US • US: • DoE • NFMCC programme • MICE, MERIT, Cooling, ISS • NSF • Tracker electronics • Spectrometer solenoid superconductor • Tracker solenoid contributions • CKOV-I est. $32k to $42k depending on design

  9. FS:US • NFMCC: Current FY • Programme: Annual budget ~ $0.7M for MICE • Baseline plan: • RF cavity & coupling coil modules (“RFCC”, 2 ea.) • Absorber windows • Tracker collaboration • D0 contribution of AFE-IIt boards (in return for a MICE effort & test stand) • Spectrometer solenoid • Immediacy of need • Current funds marginal for two units; okay if spread over two years • Cavity: initially concentrating on MTA work (MUCOOL) • Coupling coil: additional bid to NSF (MRI): CC needed for MUCOOL • Bid to DOE for CC not funded this year

  10. FS:US • NFMCC for MICE: Future years • Programme: budget bids for MICE • ~$1.0M would allow continuation at current level • ~$1.4M additional bid to support CC design & build… • 5 year funding plan • Dependent on response to MuTAC/MRI Bids etc • Aspirational budget to bring MICE to stage V • NSF • MRI funds award: 2006 $750k • Tracker electronics • Spectrometer Solenoid Magnets • NSF support for MICE ~$100k/yr (2005-2007) • Bid for UC-Riverside grant just submitted

  11. FS:US • Current procurement • 1st Cryostat for VLPC  • 2nd – 4th in manufacture at FNAL • Superconductor for spectrometer magnets (on order) • Delivery expected in April • Spectrometer magnets (about to place tender) • AFE-IIt boards (D0)

  12. FS:Jp • Absorber bodies & R&D for MICE (est. value ¥58M) • Work at KEK on absorbers and • In collaboration with MuCool & MICE • Tracker collaboration (est. cap. value ¥48M) • KEK beam time • People • Future funding dependent on bids to agencies • Contributions to tracker • mainly fibre* & cryogenics* • Contribution to tracker solenoid *UK swap

  13. FS:Eu • Ch: • Decay solenoid from PSI  • Contribution to detectors (TOF)  • People  • DAQ for TOF, muCal  • Bids for Coupling coil unsuccessful • Nl: • Contribution to magnetic sensors 

  14. FS:Eu • Italy: • INFN: funding TOF0 & MuCal Prototypes • TOF1, 2 dependent on TOF0 delivery • TOF2 further dependence on instrumentation case • Be: CKOV2: design, no construction funds • Est. ~250kEuro • Remove from baseline configuration based on additional simulation studies? • Unclear: • Front end electronics for above • DAQ • CERN • RF Power Phase 2 • potential CERN contribution (est. 140kCHF)
