Mengsels • Mengsel bestaat uit verschillende stoffen, en dus uit verschillende moleculen • Zuivere stof bestaat uit één soort stof, en dus uit één soort moleculen • Van mengsel naar zuivere stof  scheiden • Ontleedbare stof bestaat uit verschillende soorten atomen • Niet-ontleedbare stof bestaat uit één soort atomen • Ontleedbare stof  niet-ontleedbare stof  ontleden

Soorten mengsels • Een vloeistof en een vaste stof: • Oplossing: helder mengsel, vaste stof lost op in de vloeistof • Suspensie: troebel mengsel, vaste stof lost niet op in de vloeistof • Twee vloeistoffen samen: • Oplossing: helder mengsel, ene vloeistof lost op in de andere • Emulsie: troebel mengsel, vloeistoffen lossen niet in elkaar op.
