  4. 2015 Year in Review • 4 quarterly meetings, 4 mine tours and 24 presentations • Financial position strengthened • Sponsored BBGG Symposium Ice Breaker (with BOHOGS) • 1st joint BBUGS / BOHOGS Suppliers day • 1st scholarship result presented and 2nd awarded (plus decision on 2 per year) • 2nd annual UQ student society industry evening • Organised a presenter from NSW NUGS (P Corbett) • Geotechnical Reference Database up loaded to web site • 1st Practitioner sent to ICGCM in West Virginia

  7. 2015 Current Balance • Current balance is $37,837.41 (as of 24th November 2015) • BBUGS is classified as a Level 2 Association and therefore does not require an annual audit for 2015 (despite having had audits in 2013 & 2014) • We do, however, need a quorum (majority) of members to agree that you are happy with the BBUGS financials for 2015 and record it

Executive Committee 2016 Volunteers Required • 8 positions, 1 will require filling in 2016 • Michael Melville is retiring from BBUGS after 7 years including as a foundation member/organiser/chairperson • Calling for volunteers for: • Committee Member • 2 year term • If you are interested please send email to michael.okeefe@basf.com stating desired position • 2016 committee will be announced via email by Fri 18th December, 2015

BBUGS Scholarship 2015 Current status – Project underway • $5,000 value • Awarded to Matthew Northover • For his project on “Mesh Corrosion - An Analysis of Groundwater Chemistry at Broadmeadow Coal Mine and Preliminary Study on Corrosion Effects” • Results of preliminary research for corroded meshes complete • Findings to be presented to BBUGS in early 2016

BBUGS Scholarship 2016 Proposed format • Potential for two scholarships to be awarded in 2016 • $5,000 value • Similar format to 2015 • Available to students undertaking a research project relevant to underground geotechnical engineering • Postgraduate or undergraduate level • Applicants to be enrolled full-time • Funds are to be used to assist with the costs of study • Awarded to university department • Benefit of matched funding • To be advertised start of 2016 through university departments and www.bbugs.org.au(Universities were provided with a list of topic ideas in October)
