  3. Direct Current • Most electronics use DC. AC can be turned into DC with a power supply. • DC cannot be transmitted long distances easily. • DC can be stored in a battery.

  4. AC • AC can be transmitted long distances. • Large appliances use AC, some use AC and DC. • Lights and motors can run on AC.

  5. Home Wiring • Residential service is usually: • 60, 100 or 200 amp service. • 4 wires enter your house from the street • 2 Line (Hot) 110-120VAC each (180 degrees out of phase) • 1 Neutral • 1 Ground

  6. Wire • Sold By Gauge (Thickness) • Large number = small diameter wire • Small number = large diameter wire
