  2. Action Plan 2008-2009 As a result of the SAU #53 Improvement Survey feedback, we have identified six areas for action which include: 1. Communication 2. Collaboration 3. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment 4. Visibility 5. Discipline 6. SAU #53 Central Office

  3. Communication Action Improve internal and external communications with all constituent groups

  4. Communication Goal: During the 2008-2009 school year, the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will improve internal and external communications with all constituent groups by utilizing a variety of strategies.

  5. Communication Strategies 1. Publish a Superintendents’ Message on the SAU #53 website with updates a minimum of 4 times per year. 2. Formulate and work with the Web Designer Group to make the SAU #53 website more accessible to all constituent groups. 3. Attend various school and community functions in all five districts.

  6. Communication Strategies 4. Use SAKAI to post information for faculty, staff, and parents. 5. Attend faculty meetings in all buildings at least quarterly.

  7. Communication Strategies 6. Conduct monthly Leadership Team meetings which include the SAU #53 Leadership Team, building administrators, and special education coordinators. 7. Promote and celebrate student, staff, and school accomplishments in the 5 districts within SAU #53.

  8. Collaboration Action Increase collaboration among all SAU #53 administrators, faculties, and staff

  9. Collaboration Goal: During the 2008-2009 school year, the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will provide more opportunities for collaboration with administrators, faculties, and staff in the 5 districts.

  10. Collaboration Strategies 1. Continue to develop SAU #53 as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) through increased opportunities for collaboration with all constituent groups. 2. Inform all constituent groups regarding SAU #53 Shared Commitments.

  11. Collaboration 3. Seek ways for grade level teachers from each of the 5 districts within SAU #53 to meet for discussions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. 4. Begin discussions around a Strategic Plan for SAU #53 to include a vision, mission, values, and beliefs. 5. Begin discussions about a comprehensive mentor program for administrators/teachers in SAU #53.

  12. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment Action Enhance curriculum in all content areas across all schools in SAU #53 to ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment

  13. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment Goal: During the 2008-2009 school year, the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will promote and participate in curriculum activities that foster collegiality and focus on alignment of curriculum throughout SAU #53.

  14. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment Strategies 1. Continue to support the work of the Literacy/Numeracy Task Force. 2. Initiate a “Curriculum Council” for SAU #53 with members from all constituent groups to oversee curriculum/instruction/assessment throughout the SAU. 3. Review and evaluate the effectiveness of the Triad Model.

  15. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment 4. Encourage and support the use of content area continuums by all teachers. 5. Promote curriculum mapping as a vehicle for alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment. 6. Discuss the implementation of an SAU #53 “Data Team”.

  16. Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment 7. Seek ways for grade levels across the SAU to meet for discussions around curriculum/instruction/assessment. 8. Work with building administrators to analyze assessment results and utilize results to drive instruction.

  17. Visibility Action Implement a comprehensive plan to promote visibility for all SAU #53 Central Office staff members throughout SAU #53

  18. Visibility Goal: The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will be visible in schools and the communities throughout SAU #53 on a daily basis and promote SAU #53 office staff visibility within schools.

  19. Visibility Strategies 1. All SAU #53 Central Office staff will visit all schools at least once during the year. 2. The SAU #53 website will include job descriptions, roles and responsibilities for all Central Office staff. 3. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will visit schools on a regular basis and post the schedule on the website.

  20. Visibility 4. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will conduct informal classroom visitations throughout the year. 5. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will attend various functions such as PTA meetings, Open House nights, etc. 6. The Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will attend all BOE meetings in each district.

  21. Discipline Action Review discipline policies and procedures in each of the 5 districts throughout SAU #53

  22. Discipline Goal: In conjunction with the building administrators and faculties at each building, the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent will review the discipline policies and procedures in each of the 5 districts.

  23. Discipline Strategies 1. Begin the conversation about existing discipline policies and procedures in each of the 5 districts. 2. Research, review, and discuss positive behavior plans. 3. Implement or continue to implement positive behavior intervention strategies. 4. Review, revise, and edit all policies dealing with discipline in each district.

  24. SAU #53 Central Office Action Improve SAU #53 Central Office communication with all personnel in all schools

  25. SAU #53 Central Office Goal: The SAU #53 Central Office staff will institute processes and procedures to improve communication with all personnel in all schools.

  26. SAU #53 Central Office Strategies 1. Utilize the SAU #53 website to post job descriptions, roles, and responsibilities for all SAU #53 personnel. 2. Review procedures for returning phone calls, use of voice mail, use of e-mail, etc. so everyone is consistent in their approach. 3. Utilize Alert Now for positive messages, information, etc.

  27. SAU #53 Central Office Action Promote a positive, collegial, and professional work environment within the SAU #53 Central Office

  28. SAU #53 Central Office Goal: The SAU #53 Central Office staff will promote and exhibit a positive, collegial, and professional work environment.

  29. SAU #53 Central Office Strategies 1. Celebrate successes with compliment mugs, get-togethers, etc. 2. Conduct monthly SAU #53 office meetings. 3. Provide training in all areas for ease of operations. 4. Review and discuss evaluation process for SAU #53 Central Office staff.
