  1. “Blessed Are Those Who Hunger and Thirst For Righteousness” Matthew 5:6 Isaiah 55

  2. “Righteousness” • The condition of being just or right. • A condition made possible through the Gospel (Rom 1:16-17)

  3. Isaiah 61:10 10 I [Isaiah] will rejoice greatly in the Lord, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness,

  4. Acts 2:38 23 Peter said to them, “Repent, & each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; & you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” • Mark 16:16 16 He who has believed & has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

  5. 2 Corinthians 5:21 21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. • Acts 18:8 8 …the leader of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his household, & many of the Corinthians when they heard were believing & being baptized. (Mark 16:16; 1 Pet 3:21)

Hebrews 5:9 - …He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation, • 1 John 3:7 - Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practicesrighteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; • 1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, He is faithful & righteous to forgive us our sins & to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  7. “Hunger & Thirst” • Implies persistence(Prov 6:30) • Implies strength(Prov 16:26) • Implies need(Psa 42:1-2)

  8. “Righteousness” • Consider what you would be without it(2 Cor 13:5; Isa 64:5-7; Rom 7:24). • Don’t build an appetite for anything else except it(1 Thess 5:22) • Train for it(1 Cor 9:27; Heb 5:14) • Make it your only desire (Psa 27:4; 122:1) • Learn to live it(Heb 4:12; Psa 119:172) • Pray for it(Jas 5:16-17; 1 Thess 5:17)

  9. “Be Filled” • Hunger & Thirst for Righteousness and You will gradually grow into the likeness of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 1:30; Gal 4:19; Rom 8:29).

  10. Do you have a spiritual appetite? Are you hungering and thirsting for righteousness?
