Plot continued… • Utterson and Enfield go walking and see Jekyll in his window and start talking • After a w hile Jekyll gets a look of horror and shuts the window and disappears • Mr. Poole (Jekyll’s servant) comes to Utterson in desperation, Jekyll locked himself in basement and voice coming from the basement sounds nothing like Jekyll’s • Utterson and the servants break into Jekyll’s lab and find Hyde’s body wearing Jekyll’s clothing (apparently death from suicide) • They find a letter from Jekyll to Utterson explaining everything • Utterson reads Lanyon’s letter and reveals that Lanyon’s death was a result from shock of seeing Mr. Hyde drink a potion and transform into Dr. Jekyll • Letter from Jekyll explains he created this potion to separate his good side from his bad side into two separate people Jekyll turned into Hyde involuntarily during his sleep with out the potion • Jekyll writes the letter when he realizes he will transform to Hyde permanently since he cannot find a key ingredient to make more of the potion

  4. Characters • Dr Henry Jekyll- A well respected doctor who has a friendly and likeable personality with many admirers and friends. He is curious about the division between good and evil and doesn’t know which to choose between. • Mr. Edward Hyde- The evil side of Dr. Jekyll created by a potion that the doctor made. Dr. Jekyll just has to drink the potion in order to transform into Mr. Hyde. Mr. Hyde is the complete opposite of the doctor; he is aggressive, violent, cruel, and dark. Many people tend to fear him. • Mr. Gabriel John Utterson-A prominent but reserved lawyer who is known to be successful at his career. He is also described as a man who has little to say, dull and proper but somehow friendly and likeable at the same time. Mr. Utterson is a friend of Dr. Jekyll and handles the doctor’s will. He’s the first person to discover the identity of Mr. Hyde because of the will. Due to his loyalty to Dr. Jekyll, he did not give in Hyde but kept investigating the case.

  5. Characters continued… • Mr. Poole- He is Dr. Jekyll’s butler who starts to realize something strange is happening to his master and because of that fear, he reaches out to Mr. Utterson for help. • Dr. Hastle Lanyon- A respectable doctor who is a close friend of Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Lanyon is the person that Mr. Hyde sends a letter to in order for him to reach his potion and turn back to Dr. Jekyll. He is the first person to actually witness the transformation of Dr. Jekyll. Dr. Lanyon disagrees with the sort of metaphysical science that Dr. Jekyll likes to experiment with.
