  2. History • The planet Venus was named after the goddess of love and beauty; Aphrodite. • Venus is the brightest of the planets known. • Like the moon, Venus shows phases. • The Mariner 2 was the first to reach Venus.

  3. Rotation & Revolution • Venus’s revolution around the sun is 225 days long • Venus is the second planet from the sun. • It is the only planet with a longer rotation than revolution • Venus’ rotation is very slow and backwards.

  4. Venus is 108 million kilometers from the sun!

  5. Size & Density • Venus is the third smallest planet in our solar system. • Venus’ diameter is abut 7,521 miles. • It is a near twin of Earth in size and density. • Venus is terrestrial planet; thick clouds of sulfuric acid surround the planet.

  6. Temperature • Venus usually runs about 900 degrees Fahrenheit. • The temperature of Venus does not vary like it does here on Earth.

Composition • The composition of Venus has a core of metal, a mantle of liquid rock, and an outer crust of solid rock. • The surface of Venus is hot enough to melt lead. • scientist don’t have very much information about Venus because no spacecrafts can survive on the surface of Venus for more than a few minutes. • The surface of Venus is obscured by dense clouds.

  8. Atmosphere • The atmosphere on Venus is thick and hot. • The Atmosphere of Venus is mainly made up of carbon dioxide and thick clouds of sulfuric acid covering the whole planet.

  9. Satellite • Venus has no natural satellites. • It is possible that Venus has had satellites in the past. • There evidence that Venus once had Satellites is its current rotation.

Life on Venus • If you went to visit Venus you wouldn’t live because you couldn’t breath the air. • If a human went to Venus they would be crushed by the heavy atmosphere • The surface pressure on Venus is 90 time the surface pressure on Earth. • The surface temperature is 850 degrees Fahrenheit.

  12. What would life on the planet look like? • If you went to this planet you wouldn’t see any thing because you would die almost right away.
