  2. Multiple sclerosis is a rare condition affecting men and women with genetic deformity. Despite the fact that is one of the progressive neurological conditions, individuals suffering from multiple sclerosis usually manage to handle their complications and associated difficulties. Therefore, if you have been affected by this condition either by some typical illness or you know somebody who is suffering, then you should start taking some active measures.

  3. Understanding Multiple Sclerosis Multiple sclerosis, also called MS,isone of the chronic conditions affecting the central nervous system. Fatty substances present in the nerves tend to break down in this condition, or may become scars, which effects the nerve impulses transported throughout the bodies.

  4. There are many symptoms of MS, though each patient may experience only a few symptoms. Issues that range from general physical dysfunction to mood changes and memory alterations are seen. Some patients also experience sexual dysfunction. Fatigue, poor balance, reduce muscle mass and strength, poor coordination and depression are some of the few mentionable symptoms of the condition.

  5. Managing MS There is no cure for multiple sclerosis known to man. Modern treatments involving prescription medications can only help to manage the symptoms of this condition. Exercise and physiotherapy is often prescribed to patients so that their symptoms can be regulated. Besides maintaining general wellbeing and heath, exercise is helpful for managing most of the symptoms associated with multiple sclerosis.

Research reveals that people with MS, who have actively participated in regular exercise programs, have experienced improved cardiovascular fitness, less fatigue, improved strengths, and reduced signs of depression, increased social activities and a better lifestyle. There are different types of exercises to be done by patients with multiple sclerosis. First of all, it is very important to know the types of exercises that would be comfortable for a patient.

  7. For instance, aerobic exercises like swimming, walking and cycling are very effective for reducing fatigue level, improving mood and cardiovascular fitness. Similarly, strengthening exercises like resistance bands and weights also reduce the risk of falls. It is very important to do some stretching exercises too, such as yoga and other prescribed forms, to manage joint stiffness and muscle spasm.

  8. In addition, balance exercises should be done to reduce the risk of falls; these include Tai chi and similar prescribed forms. Exercises like water aerobics, yoga, tai chi and swimming are known to work very well for patients suffering from multiple sclerosis.

  9. Exercises are helpful for easing and managing the MS symptoms. However, it is imperative to take some precautions if you would like this exercise program to work. One of the most important tips to exercise is never to overdo anything. Regardless of how comfortable you are, with a form of exercise, don’t overdo. Overdoing any activity can become painful for the muscles and bones, which may lead to injuries.

  10. Before starting any exercise or activity, patients with MS should visit their physiotherapist and discuss their exercise program. The program has to be designed in such a way so that careful considerations are maintained and the limitations of a patient is taken into account.
