  1. Band Final Exam The Process • Scales (12 Major and Chromatic) • Sight Reading portion • Etude • Terms

  2. Scales • YES! You may use your circle • Know all 12 keys (basically the circle) • You must play them in under 3 minutes (2 octaves on as many as you can to earn extra points) • You must play a chromatic scale (2 octaves up and down). You can start on your lowest note and go to your highest note for extra points • Use SmartMusic to help learning and memorizing scales!

  3. Sight Reading • You will have one minute to read through the sight reading excerpt before playing • What can you do to practice sight reading? • Ask Us • Pick up some things on your own • Do a little every day. The more you do the better you get. The only way to improve is to just do it • You should see ______ when you sight read.

  4. When you are sight reading, remember STARS….. S T A R S ignatures (Key, Time) empo (style) Markings rticulations/Accidentals hythms igns (Repeat/Coda/Dynamics)

  5. Etude • STARS applies when first learning • Count and Clap through the piece • Remember the 10 practice hints from the “How to Practice” article • Isolate sections of the piece (blow chunks!) • You DO NOT have to take it at tempo (especially when first starting)

  6.   7. The Day • Remember to show up on time!!! • We will notcome and get you!!! • You may come down a FEW MINUTES early to warm up • This is a MAJOR test worth 100 points in the grade book. If you do not show up, you will receive a big fat 0 in the grade book • It is up to YOU to reschedule if you miss for ANY reason
