  2. Community & District Nursing Association • The Community & District Nursing Association believes that the ward without walls has been operating since the time of Florence Nightingale in the 1950’s.

  3. Community & District Nursing Association • Florence Nightingale wrote nursing notes in 1860, which set out some guidelines… • “Careful observation” and “sensitivity to the patient’s needs” is the bedrock of nursing.

  4. Community & District Nursing Association • There have been extensive changes to our role since Florence Nightingale was nursing, with the expectation of patients increasing and health needs more challenging. • Today nurses are expected to be leaders and pioneers in community nursing.
