  1. AP Bio lab 8: Lab Questions • Assume the in North American population for dimples is approximately 60 percent. Use Chi square to analyze if any difference between your data and the continental average is due to chance. • In B part 1, ‘An Ideal H-W Population’, what would the expected values of p and q be after 5 generations? • How close were your class results different from the expected? • Predict what may have happened had this experiment (B-1) been carried out for 10 more generations? • Compare the frequency of p & q from B-2 (selection against HomoRec) to the frequency of p & q in B-1. • Do you think the ‘a’ allele would ever totally be eliminated from the population? Why or why not? • Explain the difference in the results of the simulation showing selection (B-2) to the simulation showing heterozygous advantage (B-3). • In the simulation demonstrating genetic drift, what do the resulting allele frequencies suggest about population size as an evolutionary force? • You just discovered a population of giant purple skinned, toed, 3-horned dragons. A small number only have 6 toes. In a population of 1,378 dragons, 174 of them have only 6 toes. Assuming the 6-toed organisms are carrying a recessive trait, calculate the gene frequencies and the percentage of homozygous dominant, heterozygous, and recessive individuals.
