  3. Project-based Learning Focuses on student choice, teacher responsibility, and opportunities for differentiation. • students participate in projects and practice an interdisciplinary array of skills from math, language arts, fine arts, social studies, science, and technology.

  4. How we make Project-based Learning work in our gifted classroom: • Follow the district’s curriculum calendar • Adhere to AZ Career and College Ready Standards • Employ both Acceleration and Enrichment • Cross Curricular Projects • Planning a vacation • Fencing a yard • Decorating a Room • Planning a Party • Research Papers • Etc…????

  5. Social-Emotional Activities That Build: • Self-esteem • Teamwork • Communication • Anger Management • Self-Discovery • And Coping Skills

  6. Take a look at a couple of things we have already done! S.T.E.A.M • Marshmallow Challenge • http://www.ted.com/talks/view/lang/en//id/837 • The task is simple: in eighteen minutes, teams must build the tallest free-standing structure out of 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string, and one marshmallow. The marshmallow needs to be on top.

  7. A Math lesson on Data, Tables, and Graphs We were able to use our Scholastic book order forms Collect Data We used technology to create a table And then create a bar graph

  8. Using Circle Thinking Maps to compare how the main character (Mary Lennox) differed in chapter one and chapter five.
