Vision & Mission… • “Aid in the region’s economic viability and development through labor responsive, proactive workforce development services…” • “..be the leading-edge educational solution for workforce, community, and innovation…” • “…supporting community and workforce development with business, industry, and community partnerships…” • “…leads a dynamic, efficient and integrated workforce development system that promotes economic development and community growth…”

  4. How Collaborate? Common Activities: • Training and education referrals including WIA, NEGs, Trade & NAFTA • Industry Sector Grant Activity in Health Care, Green Jobs, Precision Machining and Early Childhood Educators • See Hand-out -- $2.3M in community college investments! • Partners in youth initiatives (MCAS, Summer Jobs) • Coordination with financial aid, e.g. Pell Grants, Educational Rewards Program • Participation in Career, College Fairs, Re-Entry Job Fair • Entrepreneurial Programs including SBA and SCORE • Technical assistance related to Individuals with Disabilities (SNAP & WIG Grants) • Coordination with ABE/ESL programs (Career Center special orientations/referrals) • WorkKeys Assessments Piloted at Centers

  5. How Collaborate? Unique Activities: FutureWorks & STCC: • Community College as Landlord • Community outreach via college radio station • Host Student Interns CareerPoint & HCC: • Co-Author of original charter application • Adult Learning Center at Center (all ‘learners’ go through CP orientation & curriculums have workforce component built in) • Trainers provide workshops for HCC DTA Jump Start program • On-going collaboration of the Multi-Modal center to open this summer • Collaborating on the City’s new High Performance IT Center

Challenges: • Differing Performance Standards • Meeting Aggregate Employer Demand – WCTF/Business-driven Partnerships Great Vehicles to do this! • Meeting non-traditional learner “real-time” needs (scheduling, times, etc.) • Reconciling internal community college “credit vs. non-credit” demands

  7. Keys to Success • Individual Institutional Relationships • Presidents to Faculty / Directors to “Direct Service” staff • Credit & Non-Credit / WIB & OSCCs • Learn Each Others Business Practices & Develop Solutions Together where Barriers Exist

Looking Forward • Continued Industry Sector Partnerships • Capacity-building efforts (ala work in health care) • Improved Alignment & Career Pathways: Vocational Technical to Community Colleges (ala precision machining) • Capitalizing on WIA Re-authorization Opportunities • Exploring more OSCC-CC interconnectivity • Shared Staff Professional Development Needs
