  1. Net Zero Carbon Emissions Explained

  2. Climate change is real and it’s affecting us all. As the entire planet continues to feel the harmful effects of global warming, investors are becoming decidedly pickier as to which companies they choose to do business with, opting to work only with those who are able to demonstrate a sufficient degree of environmental responsibility. In turn, this has seen many of the world’s biggest and most well-known companies make pledges to attain ‘net zero’ carbon emissions within defined timeframes, and even many smaller companies are doing the same. But what exactly is net zero?

  3. Net zero explained For an organization to reach a target of net zero, they must be able to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by as much as possible, and ensure that any remaining emissions are not able to re-enter the atmosphere. Carbon is the greenhouse gas that has become the primary focus of net zero efforts, and many companies throughout America and beyond, have pledged to become carbon neutral within a certain timeframe, while others aim to be completely carbon neutral within the next decade.

  4. Net zero as a concept, can be a little misleading The way in which companies throughout the world aim to achieve net zero, is often complicated and has the potential to be very misleading. For instance, some companies opt to do absolutely nothing about their own emissions, while choosing instead to support projects that ‘offset’ their carbon output, such as by planting trees. However, research has shown that as few as 5% of such promised offsets, actually do anything to effectively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. This shocking evidence has led to claims that companies are merely ‘greenwashing’ and trying to gloss over their own emissions, instead of doing anything meaningful and effective to reach a target of net zero.

  5. What role does solar power play in achieving net zero carbon emissions? Electricity generated from harmful fossil fuels such as coal, is one of the leading sources of carbon emissions, and any company that can make the switch from fossil fuels to solar, is going to progress towards net zero at a faster pace. Neither solar energy nor the power plants they run on, produce any harmful emissions or air pollution, making going solar a fantastic way to achieve net zero in the quickest time.

  6. Take the cement industry; this is one of the least sustainable on the planet and is responsible for around 8% of carbon emissions globally. Some companies within the industry have begun using solar instead of fossil fuels during their production processes, which is an active step towards eliminating those emissions altogether.

  7. What can you do to reduce carbon emissions at home? With the cost of solar systems having dropped in recent years (and set to continue dropping), having solar panels installed at your home is something that more and more homeowners can afford. Residential solar panels enable you to power your home without contributing to carbon emissions, while having a solar system at your business will give you the opportunity to work toward net zero emissions. For more information about achieving net zero through solar innovation, chat to a local solar energy provider and see how you can do your bit for the planet, and for future generations.

  8. Proxima Solar Energy is a proud veteran owned organization founded by a group of partners, on the premise that everyone should have access to a clean, alternative-energy future. Proxima Solar Energy is one of the best solar companies for home solar panels in Dallas and believes that your path to a clean energy future should not be difficult or complicated, so we seek to bring you simplified solar solutions that will benefit today and help to ensure a brighter tomorrow.
