  2. What is the France Florida Foundation for the Arts? France Florida Foundation for the Arts (FFFA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2005 by the Consulate General of France in Miami and the French Consulate’s Culture Services department. The French community and American Francophiles decided to create the FFFA in order to fill their need for an organization that helps professionals and cultural institutions in the US promote and develop French culture in Florida.

  3. What is our mission? The FFFA was created to promote a greater international understanding between France and Florida by facilitating cultural, educational, and artistic exchanges between the two. In addition to making a donation toward cultural event, donors can also benefit from unique activities such as galas and VIP designed trips to New York, Washington DC or Paris where French culture can be experienced in a unique extraordinary way.

  4. Visual Arts:

  5. “Journey through the Imagination of Jules Verne” (November 18, 2005 – January 31, 2006) A commemoration of Jules Verne on the centennial of his death, this exhibition was held at the Broward County Library in Fort Lauderdale. It included lectures, a film series, and other educational activities.

  6. “Shortcuts between Reality and Fiction” (November 3, 2005 – January 29, 2006) An impressive 5,881 people visited the Bass Museum of Art for this contemporary French art exhibition consisting of videos, installations and paintings from le Fond National d’Art Contemporain (FNAC). FNAC is one of the largest public national art collections in the world. It was the first time that a selection of works from the FNAC was presented in the United States.

  7. “French Kissin’ in the U.S.A.” (December 4, 2007 – March 8, 2008) The Moore Space in Miami’s Design District held an exhibition of 17 emerging French contemporary artists, including Tatiana Trouvé, Claire Fontaine, and Phillipe Perrot.

  8. “Tour de France/Florida: Contemporary Artist’s from France in Florida’s Private Collections ” (November. 9, 2011 – March 18, 2012) This exhibition presented over 60 works from around 30 different collections by 27 contemporary artists from France. For this exhibition, the FFFA financed the publication of a bilingual (French and English) catalog, 165 pages long, which features all of the pieces on display.

  9. Cinema and Film Festivals:

  10. “France Cinema Miami” (November 11 – 13, 2005) Now called France Cinema Florida, after expanding its program to other cities, this festival was organized by French Feeling Films and the Alliance Française of Miami. It was the inaugural year for the festival, which turned out to be very successful with 80% sales on all projections in the Cocowalk theatre.

  11. “Paris, je t’aime” (November 3, 2007) Sleepless Night, in partnership with the Miami International Film Festival and the FFFA, included in their program an outdoor screening on the beach of this iconic film by 22 different filmmakers.

  12. “Miami International Film Festival Celebrates the French World Cinema” (February 28 – April 5, 2008) The FFFA created this unique francophone film program, which was presented by the Miami International Film Festival at the Wolfsonian Museum. It was followed by a brunch and panel discussion on how to promote francophone cinema in the United States.

  13. “Romance in a Can” (February 10 – 24, 2008) This unique film festival, in partnership with Eurocinema, presented selection of the best European romantic independent films in various venues throughout Miami.

  15. “Thibault Cauvin in Concert” (April 24, 2007) The FFFA produced an exclusive concert of the French acoustic guitarist, Thibault Cauvin, at the Coral Gables Congregational Church in collaboration with the Alliance Française of Miami.

  16. “Dialogue with a Piano” (February 22, 2008) This Piano duet concert was held in celebration of the Coral Gables / Aix en Provence sister city program. Michel Bourdoncle, from Aix en Provence, and Paul Posnak, from Coral Gables, performed together at the Coral Gables Congregational Church.

  17. “Fête de la musique” (Make Music Miami) (Annually 2007 – 2010) Launched in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture, Fêtede la musique has now evolved into a global music fest. The FFFA has been supporting this one-day event of free music, open to the public, for several years in collaboration with the Rhythm Foundation and the Alliance Française of Miami.

  18. Lectures, Book Fairs and More

  19. “Situating French 20th and 21st Century French and Francophone Studies” (March 30 – April 1, 2006) More than 220 professors and experts of French contemporary language and culture participated in this 3-day colloquium, which was organized by the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Miami, along with the support of the Cultural Services of the French Consulate in Miami.

  20. “Le Pavillon Francophone” (The Francophone Pavilion) (November 8 – 11, 2007) The Francophone Pavilion was part of the 2007 Miami Book Fair International. Several authors from Haiti, Morocco, Congo, Canada, Belgium and France were invited to the Pavilion to present lectures, host workshops, and read from their latest works.

  21. “Great (or Bad?) TIME for French Culture(s)” (April 7, 2008) The FFFA created this special conference at North Miami’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Several panelists, including MOCA director, major contemporary art collectors, the Miami Dade Director of Cultural Affairs, Contemporary artists, and magazine editors, all participated in a unique arts conversation.

  22. “French best-selling author Marc Levy comes to Miami” (November 16-17, 2012) Marc Levy’s visit to Miami was an FFFA operation. He is a very well-established author whose works have been translated into 45 different languages and published in over 32 countries. On November 16th, he visited two local middle schools and the was the guest of honor at an exclusive cocktail at Nikki Beach. The following, Miami Book Fair International held an arts conversation entitled “Marc Levy in conversation with Rosecrans Baldwin,” where Marc Levy spoke. He also presented and signed his latest novels.

  23. How do you become a sponsor of FFFA? You can become a partner of the France Florida Foundation for the Arts by supporting us with a donation. All sponsors of FFFA will be mentioned in FFFA publications and will be invited to all of the events we host. Your name or the company’s name and logo will be displayed where applicable. FRENCH HERITAGE LANGUAGE PROGRAM - MIAMI • The French Heritage Language Program (FHLP), a program of the non-profit foundation, FrenchAmerican Cultural Exchange (FACE) and the cultural services of the Consulate General of France in Miami, is designed to support and enrich the teaching and learning of French language, literature, andculture for students of Francophone (French speaking) background. • The primary objectives of the program are to help these students develop proficiency in French (readingcomprehension, writing, oral expression and other literacy skills), and maintain a connection to theirrespective cultures and identities, while increasing their opportunities for success in their newenvironment. • Please, help us open new classes and expand the program with new partners • By Donating to the French Heritage Language Program now, you are playing an integral role in helpingstudents continue their French education. Your tax-deductible donation can sponsor any of the followingopportunities for these deserving students such as: • $2,000: French classes for 1 month for 25 students, 6 hours a week. • $1,000: One part-time coordinator for one month. • $500: One-month French summer camp for 3 children.

  27. 450th Anniversary of French presence in Florida This ambitious project began in May 2012 with the celebration of the Frenchpresence in Florida, since the arrival of Jean Ribault who, in the spring of 1562, tookpossession of the State of Florida in the name of France. The celebration will involvove varies activities: • November 2013/Spring 2014 – Symposium FSULa FlorideFrançaise: Florida, France, and the Francophone WorldThe Winthrop-King Institute for Contemporary French and FrancophoneStudies and the Institute of Napoleon and the French Revolution at FloridaState University will host this international conference that will be open tothe public and will take place over 2 days. Scholars on both sides of theAtlantic are involved. • June 2014 – Commemoration of the foundation of Fort Caroline • Traveling Exhibit (TREX) of Theodor de Bry's Engravings of the Timucua accompany by the short film “The French in Florida (1562-66)”: The Museum of Florida History Traveling Exhibits program will create 46 to 48 panels reproducing the engravings. The full plates - illustrations and accompanying text – will be displayed with interpretive text and translations in EnglishVenues are currently being sought for the full year of 2014 when the exhibit will be put on display. A minimum of three, but ideally four, borrowing institutions will have the exhibit on loan for two to three months at a time for a fee of $750 per venue.

International Studies • The French curriculum IS program is a remarkableand unique initiative which has been the pride of the localpublic education system since it was first launched inSouth Florida in the 80s , allowing K-12 students tosimultaneously attend the American and the Frenchcurriculums and obtain diplomas from the respectiveprograms. This curriculum is taught in 4 public schoolswithin Miami Dade: Sunset Elementary, Coconut GroveElementary, GW Carver Middle School, ISCHS. • This curriculum is currently funded by Miami Dade CountyPublic Schools and by the French Government but needsadditional private money to preserve and develop theoptions available in the bilingual program • The contribution of the parents, business community and local authorities is essential in this issue.This contribution can also be renewable, thereby perpetuating the bilingual program while takinginto account the broader evolution of the public education system in Florida. • $ 50,000 allows hiring a full time teacher for 1 school year • $ 30,000 allows building of a Lab for High school students of the scientific track • $ 10,000 allows 2 extra hours / week of tutoring for elementary students to increase their level of French…

TIGERTAIL FLA-FRA • FLA-FRA (Florida-France) is a dynamic robust event that takes place April 2014 & April 2015, a community-wide fête of site-specific events and new performance appearing throughout Miami at theaters and un-expected locations. FLA-FRA, initiated by Tigertail is a partnership with the French government, French and Miami Dade artists and varies organizations. • FLA-FRA dismantles labels and provides opportunities for audiences and Miami artists of all media to explore the dialogue between artist and participant, examine how artists help re-imagine the world, and engage in the vital role artists play as critical thinkers and catalysts for social evolution. FLA-FRA is for Miami residents and for anyone visiting Miami during April. FLA-FRA has the taste and smell of fresh new ideas that take the viewer to many parts of this complex city.
