HLC Criteria for Accreditation: • The institution makes readily available to students and to the general public clear and complete information including: • Policies regarding academic good standing, probation and dismissal • http://cms.grcc.edu/sites/default/files/docs/policies/8-17_academic_standing.pdf Policy Subsection8.17 Academic Standing:Grand Rapids Community College requires all students to make satisfactory academic progress.

  4. Review and Findings fromAcademic Standing Data Academic Standing Cohorts after 3 Years Findings: • Policy had a positive impact in year 1 with 8% increase in graduate/transfer/ still enrolled students. • Year 2 cohort is 3% higher than baseline, but 5% less than cohort 1. • Patterns were consistent across cohorts for ethnic groups, gender and age.

  5. Academic Standing Cohorts after 3 YearsChange in Cumulative GPA Findings: • The GPA of students still enrolled after policy went into effect is higher. • Pattern is maintained in second cohort.

  6. Academic Standing Process and Intervention Improvements Teaching & Learning Quality Report Academic Standing – Deans’ Council Review Dec. 13, 2012 Engagement and communication strategies implemented for student probation cohort Fall 2012. Reviewing the Success Workshop curriculum and outcomes for possible changes. Rationale: Percent of students moving from probation to good academic standing was trending downward.

  7. Michigan Community College Benchmark Information Policy requirements. Policy alignment with financial aid warning and suspension. Requirement for probationstudents Length of suspension and appeal process.

  8. Conclusion Policy and requirements are demonstrating student success. Continue to analyze data for student subsets. Continue to track and tweak effective student probation interventions for success. Propose language change to update policy and explore suspension changes.

  9. Proposed Recommendationfor Policy Change Explore a policy change to allow a student placed on academic suspension to continue enrollment in the next semester with a mandatory enrollment requirement in CLS-102 - Practicing Strategies for Academic Success. Language changes that update the policy and student requirements.
