  1. Capacity

  2. Ecological constrains Is concerned with the relation of living organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings.

  3. Expansion n Ecological effects Durban port Panama port • The Durban port expansion is good for GROWTH, GLOBAL COMPETION. • The bad part is the effect of WATER, AIR, and SOIL POLLUTION in area of EThekwini location. • Some effected areas like UMBILO, UMLASS, ISPINGO and IMBOKODWENI river location in Durban. • The Panama port has been expanding for past 3 years. • Climate changes have made it difficult for port expansion and operation. • Increase in soil erosion and landslides which result in canal not being able to navigate. • Hence it can mainly effect communities in terms of health and economical constrains.

  4. Solution of Durban port Storm bunds : a wall to prevent ecological catchment areas .Ensuring clear contaminated land, preventing natural rivers, enforcing underground fuel tanks. The encouragement of eco-friendly products like fuel, power and recycling.

  5. Railways DURBAN PANAMA • The railway transport maybe the cheapest mode of transport but: • It is also too risky and slow. • The lack of communication between geographical areas and tracking of cargoes. Loadsheding . • The locations like Gauteng which have high-hijacking rate. Panama has bigger engine trains, which means faster trains. Panama changed their rail from north Pacific to the northwest trying to substitute their route cause of piracy.

  6. Equipment improvement

  7. Solutionselectrificationuse rather the diesel or coalincrease number to 17 trains per dayimproving communication facilitiesextension of rail capacity from 4000to 12000 tons a train.Raise funds by chargers to ensure the security, rail performance, and flexibility.Transnet may also work with private sector in terms of tenders, partnerships, to maintain a productive port

  8. social constraint Durban solutions • Infrastructure • Road accidents • Limited access to useful spots • Relocation • Reduction of speed • Shore power • Electronic machines and trucks • Rail

  9. Economic constrains Economic factors Impact on the port Impact on facilities Impact on railway Solutions… Recognition of the issue Strategies Possible outcomes

  10. Policy Constraint Durban solution • National forestry act protect trees • Set departments conflict • Benefit present and future generation • Forests play a role in the economy • Protects wildlife and ocean species • Apply the cut one plant one method for trees • Conditions to restructure forestry in states
