DL or DE … refers to instruction where the instructor and the student are separated geographically so that face-to-face communication is absent. • Communication accomplished by one or more technological media, and may be either asynchronous or synchronous. • May employ correspondence study, or audio, video, or computer technologies now known or hereafter developed, utilized to teach any distance course originating from or sponsored by the University. • "Course" refers to any class offered for credit or non-credit. This includes, but is not limited to, both distance education classroom courses (VC) and online courses (WB). The provisions in this article, unless otherwise stipulated, shall refer to all distance learning. Dr. Annette M. Burden

Within each college actively involved in asynchronous distance learning, a BUFM shall receive release time of two 2 workload hours (WH) for instructional design to develop a new or make major revisions to an approved online distance learning course as specified in the DL Strategic Plan. • WB not VC • Instructional design - systematic process of translating general principles of learning and instruction into plans for instructional materials and learning • Approval • appropriate form must be filled out by faculty member, signed by chair, and sent to Dean’s office for approval at micro level • Forms approved at mid level are to be sent to DEAC • DEAC will recommend approval at macro level • Forms must be completely processed & with final approval by timeline set forth in Schedule of operations. • Copies of final approval at macro level will be sent to appropriate department for processing. • Course developer must be properly trained in instructional design best practice for WB courses. • A course developer shall have first right of refusal to teach the course developed.   7. Compensation for the instruction of an asynchronous distance education course shall equal the workload hours for that course plus one (1) additional workload hour unless otherwise agreed to in the Faculty Distance Learning Agreement (FDLA) • WB not VC • Instructor • Must be properly trained in teaching and learning best practice for WB courses. • Can develop media for enhanced instruction, but must apply for Dean’s release time for additional compensation • Intellectual property rules are as defined in contract • Approval • appropriate form must be filled out by faculty member, signed by chair, and sent to Dean’s office for approval at micro level • Forms approved at mid level are to be sent to DEAC • DEAC will recommend approval at macro level • Forms must be completely processed & with final approval by timeline set forth in Schedule of operations. • Copies of final approval at macro level will be sent to appropriate department for processing.   8. It is not the intent of the University to use distance education technology to permanently reduce, eliminate, or consolidate fulltime bargaining unit positions at the University. Dr. Annette M. Burden

  9. Need list of courses being offered for Spring as either VC or WB by September 12 • Unless dire need arises, no new development will be accepted for Fall 08 or Spring 09 Dr. Annette M. Burden
