Justification of Need Demographics: • Poverty Rate 64.2% for school, 61.71% for county • 21.7% of mothers hold less than a high school education. • 9% of the district population hold a BA degree or higher. • Low identified occurrence of substance abuse. • 14.4% unemployment as of December, 2009.

  5. Justification of Need: • WESTEST 2 • Mathematics • All- 46.27% proficient • Low SES- 34.64% proficient • Special Education- 3.03% proficient • Reading/Language Arts • All- 48.93% proficient • Low SES- 40.15% proficient • Special Education- 12.12% proficient

  8. Grant Goal • Increase the academic performance of students on formative and summative tests in the areas of Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics

  9. Grant Activities • Train and support staff in the development of Professional Learning Communities. • Provide continuous, site-based, job-embedded staff development in conjunction with the Solution Tree in the areas of: • PLCs • Formative and summative assessments • Grading • Data analysis • Improved instructional practices.

  10. Train and support staff in the analysis and improvement of the school climate, including but not limited to: • Discipline • Student engagement • Parent involvement.
