  2. Essential Question • How did the Revolution become more radical and what were the effects?

  3. Review from yesterday • 3rd Estate forms National Assembly and created a constitution for France with Rights/Freedoms for citizens • Still have a king • This is moderate, not radical

  4. Fear and Paranoia Spread • June 1789 - Louis calls troops to Paris in case he needs to maintain order if he moves against the National Assembly • People are not sure about the new government • King is not happy

  6. Rise of the Jacobins • Extreme Left, very liberal • Want a Republic, equality, control of economics (ex. Bread prices) • No king

  7. Execution of the King • Louis is put to trial and convicted of treason against France • Executed in January 1793

  8. Reign of Terror Begins (July 1793 - July 1794) • Formation of the Committee of Public Safety • CPS controls the government, now • CPS is in charge of protecting the republic from “enemies” • Enemy = anyone who disagrees with the CPS
