  1. A Quarter in the Life of a CPP Instructor Claudia Pinter-Lucke AVP for Academic Programs

  2. Add/Drop – The Student’s Perspective • Students can add/drop online. They start four working days before the quarter starts. • Students can add their name to a waitlist if your class is full • During the first week, when they drop, the class is dropped from their record.

  3. Add/Drop – The Instructor’s Perspective • You should check your online class roster daily. • You should administratively drop students who don’t attend on the first day. • You can drop students who don’t satisfy the prerequisites, but . . . • Check with your department first to see if they gave the student permission to take your class.

  4. The Little Details about Adding • How to use the Waitlist • You don’t need to do anything. You can let BD do everything. • If you are adding students with permission numbers, you don’t need to go by the Waitlist. • Check with your department before taking these actions • Add students over class capacity with permission numbers • Add students who don’t satisfy prerequisites • Add students by instructor permission • Student-specific permission

  5. Continue to check your class roster for student who shouldn’t be there, and students who are missing. Remember to check Extended Education Rosters Students can still withdraw online. They will get a “W” on their record and will remain “enrolled” in your class. Students are limited to 28 “W” units. After Add/Drop - Before CensusIt’s Not Over Yet

  6. After Census – WithdrawalsNow It Gets Painful • Students can withdraw for a serious and compelling reason that interferes with enrollment. • They must complete a petition that is signed by the instructor, approved by the major department chair and dean. • They will receive a “W” grade on their record. • Students are limited to 28 “W” units.

  7. Students can withdraw for a serious and compelling reason that prohibits enrollment. They must complete a petition that is signed by the instructor, approved by the major department chair and dean. They will receive a “WX” grade. These units to not contribute to the 28 unit limit on withdrawals, or the 42 units of repeats. The Details on Withdrawals

  8. The grade rosters are accessed by clicking on the Grade Roster Icon next to the Class Roster Icon. Grade students in regular sections and in E sections. Save often. When you are completely done, Approve. Save again. Take a screen shot of the message that you have successfully completed that roster. Approve all grade rosters, even those with all grades already assigned by Registrar’s Office. Grading Classes

  9. What Do Those Grades Mean?(and why can’t I assign them?) • CR/NC • I - Incomplete • F - Failure • WU - Withdrawal Unauthorized • RP - Report in Progress • RD - Report Delayed Students can only repeat classes in which they receive a grade lower than C.

  10. Advising and Registration - Not your job? • There is an official period of advising for the next quarter before the initial registration period. • Students can have a variety of holds that will prevent registration. • Work in progress will satisfy prerequisites. • Students are limited to 13 units during the initial registration period; later registration allows 17 and 20 units.

  11. Repeating CoursesIt ain’t easy Students can • enroll in any given course a maximum of three times. • only repeat courses in which they receive a C- or lower. • repeat courses for a maximum of 42 units. • forgive a maximum of 16 units (these are included in the 42 units). • Classes with W’s are not considered an attempt.
