  2. Partners in a Shared Task An invitation to talk together about our roles in passing on the faith to our children and young people Welcome! Saturday 5 February Sacred Heart Parish Warrington

  3. Who is in the room? Home (parents, grandparents, children) Parish (Priests, deacons, catechists, parishioners) School (Head Teachers, RE-Co-ordinators, Teachers, Governors, Teaching Assistants) Archdiocese (Pastoral Formation, Christian Education)

  4. “As parents, teachers, priests, parish catechists or youth workers ... Our roles in the settings of home, parish, school and other centres are complementary yet distinct. We are partners in a shared task. We help the young to grow and develop but we do so in different ways. We need to be clear about our different roles if we are to perform them with confidence. At times we have false expectations of what we can do and we make unrealistic demands of others.” Gallagher, J., 1986. Guidelines. 6. Creator God, You are mother and a father to us all. You hold us all equally in your love as children of God. Grant us the grace to share your love with other people: to love and to be loved, to give and to receive, to trust and to be trusted, to forgive and be forgiven. Help us to be constant in your love. Help us to live fully in all the roles we have in family life and strengthen us with your grace to be evermore part of your family, the family of God. Amen

  7. No one can believe alone, just as no one can live alone. You have not given yourself faith as you have not given yourself life. The believer has received faith from others and should hand it on to others. Our love for Jesus and for our neighbour impels us to speak to others about our faith. Catechism of the Catholic Church #166 Faith is a personal act - the free response of the human person to the initiative of God who reveals himself. But faith is not an isolated act. Catechism of the Catholic Church #166 Each believer is thus a link in the great chain of believers. I cannot believe without being carried by the faith of others, and by my faith I help support others in the faith. Catechism of the Catholic Church #166

  8. Why are we here? Where does this come from? Bishops’ concern Bishops’ listening! ‘Celebrating Family Project’ as response
