Mission To increase the percentage of students from low income families who are prepared for success in high school, graduate from a high school, and are then admitted to and successfully complete a postsecondary education program by creating a “college-going” culture in Jacksonville and its public schools that helps participating middle and high school students and their families prepare for college eligibility, cover college costs, and continue to support students’ success in their postsecondary education programs.

  4. JCCA’s Jacksonville Commitment College Advisors are housed in each of the Phase I High Schools: • Raines HS • Ribault HS • Lee HS • Englewood HS • Terry Parker HS

JCCA Engagement Initiatives • “The Year of the Parent” - info and financial aid sessions • Hosted events: • Test Prep • Financial Aid Workshops • College Access Program Partners Events • Study Skills Workshops • JC Information Sessions • Community Presence • BEACON • Reclaiming Jacksonville’s Youth Symposium • NACAC • GEAR Up • Interact Breakfast • Boys to Men Symposium

  6. Participation Rates JC Participation is the number of students participating in JC activities out of the eligible population of students.

  7. Additional Student Support Eligible students who are not enrolled in Phase I High School will be encouraged to participate in partnering college access programs such as GEAR Up, CROP, First Baptist Church of Mandarin, Upward Bound, etc. These students will also be eligible for The Jacksonville Commitment Scholarship.

  9. Scholarship Funding • City of Jacksonville - $1.8 million (to date) • FSCJ - $1,000 stipend • UNF – Full tuition, fees, books, housing, meal plan, plus transportation allowance; assigned academic and financial aid advisor

  11. UNF Success • UNF College Success Course (Fall 2009) • JC Scholars Advising Program Training for EWC Advisor • UNF Leadership Academy Presentation • Mandatory UNF Scholars Meetings each term • Study Skills Workshops • Time Management Workshops • Financial Literacy Seminars

Funding the Infrastructure • UNF fully funds the daily operating costs of The Jacksonville Commitment, as well as the following positions: • Director, The Jacksonville Commitment • Jacksonville Commitment School Liaison • Advisor, UNF Academic Center for Excellence • Coordinator, UNF Financial Aid • JCCA’s are funded by: • Duval County Public Schools • The Sheriff’s Office • Blue Cross/Blue Shield • Wayne and Pat Hogan • Jack Allen • Steve and Anne Pajcic

  13. Future Program Needs • More scholarship funding • Financial support to build JCCA and Administrative staff • Incorporation into the “tapestry” of each institution • Marketing presence
