Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo is an endangered animal found in Australia • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo is a subspecies of the Eastern Gray Kangaroo that can only be found in Tasmania • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo population has depleted 90% since the 1800’s

Why is the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo endangered? • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo is endangered because people have been hunting them for their meat • They are also endangered because people have been cutting down their habitat. Places where suitable habitats are located have far distances between them with nothing but land that is unsuitable for the Kangaroos to live on.

What we can do to stop the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroos from becoming extinct • We have to be sure not to hunt the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroos so that they will have a fighting chance at survival. • We must stop deforestation so that the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroos will have a suitable place to live. If we do not stop deforestation then the Kangaroos will have no way to continue to live.

  5. Why should we try to save the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo? We should save the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroos because every animal that goes extinct is just one more animal gone. If we are not careful and we continue to watch as animals go extinct then before we know it some very important animals will be extinct and it could mess up the eco system. For example: If mosquito eaters went extinct, then we would have to deal with the overpopulation of mosquitoes in our environment.

About the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo • Tasmanian Forester Kangaroos are supposed to go extinct within the next 100 years. • Scientists believe this because they are watching the rate at which the numbers are decreasing. • The Kangaroos are being shot by ranchers and farmers because they share the land with their farm animals and they don’t want their animals to have to compete for food with the Kangaroos.

Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo’s appearance • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroos can weigh up to 150 pounds and grow up to 6.5 feet in height. • Their coat color varies from a light brownish gray to a full gray. • They have long tails that they use for balance and as a prop when standing. • They move on all four legs when not jumping.

About the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo’s behavior • The Tasmanian forester kangaroo is very social animal. • They live in small groups called “mobs”. • Males are aggressive when it comes to gaining dominance of the “mob”. • Females give birth to one Joey, or baby kangaroo, after a 35 day pregnancy period.

  9. Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo’s habitat • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo live in grasslands or open woodlands. • They distributed throughout most of the eastern third of the Australian continent, but their numbers have vastly decreased since European settlement on the continent.

  10. What does the Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo eat? • The Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo eats grass, forbs (Any non-grass-like plant), herbs, and shrubs. • The Forester’s often feed during the day, but mostly dine during the morning and early evening.

Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo population • Tasmanian Forester Kangaroo populations have reduced by about 90% since the 1800s due to hunting for its meat, and the loss of habitat. • Currently, they compete with other introduced herbivores and livestock. • They also deal with road deaths, climate change, disease, and poisonous bating.

  12. Conclusion • The Tasmanian forester kangaroo is a wonderful animal which is in danger of dying out. • We must stop the random, unnecessary killing or these, and other, animals, will die out. Also we must stop the deforestation of the wonderful wilderness of the world because it destroys the habitat of many diffent animals. • Do we want these animals to DIE OUT within 100 years? Think about it.
