North • The North had big factories and they made their finished goods quicker • Their factories got their cotton from the South • They used water power to run machines in factories • Some factories were very crowded • Woman/Immigrant labor in the factories • The Woman/immigrants worked long hours for little pay

  4. South • Small Farms • Invested in Slaves rather than machines • Only 25% of people in the south owned slaves • If slaves were caught not doing their job they would get a metal collar put on their necks • The slaves were sold and bought, and sometimes taken away from their family • No pay!

  6. How did this conflict lead to war? • Misunderstandings • South wanted slaves north didn’t • Thought only about themselves and not everyone else • This leads to a war
