  3. Martinique Demography The population of the Martinique has been estimated to 411 000 inhabitants. Martinique population is mainly composed of black men and mixed-races (about 80%).

  4. Classification of the municipalities The municipalities of Martinique are organized in a alphabetic arrangement with their statistic code(code INSEE) and postal code.

  5. Administrative organization The administrative organization is made up of three levels : the municipality, the department and the region.

  6. Status of the Martinique Martinique is an island at the same time overseas region and French overseas department; the departmental code is 972.

  7. Spoken language The Creole from Martinique is a Creole based on French spoken in Martinique. Creole is considered as atruelanguage.

  8. History Christophe Columbus discovered Martinique on 15th July 1502 on his fourth travel but some versions of this history said he discovered Martinique on his second travel in 1493.
