  1. TWENTIENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME, AUGUST 18,2013 “I have come to set the earth on fire.” Pope Benedict XVI wrote that the fire is Christ’s own passion of love, “a fire that is to be handed on. Whoever comes close to him must be prepared to be burned. This is a fire that makes things bright and pure and free and grand. Being a Christian, then, is daring to entrust oneself to this brining fire.” The fire is set to ablaze when we speak the truth, like the prophet Jeremiah who is punished for it. “The message of the Church is there precisely in order to conflict with our behavior, to tear man out of his life of lies and to bring clarity and truth. Truth makes demands, and it also burns.” Christ comes to divide us from whatever divides us from him. We keep our eyes fixed on Jesus. forever. At the Visitation, Elizabeth calls Mary “mother of my Lord.” As in all the mysteries of Mary’s life, Mary is closely associated with Jesus: Her queenship is a share in Jesus’ kingship. We can also recall that in the Old Testament the mother of the king has great influence in court. // In the fourth century St. Ephrem called Mary “Lady” and “Queen” and Church Fathers and Doctors continued to use the title. Hymns of the eleventh to thirteenth centuries address Mary as queen: “Hail, Holy Queen,” “Hail, Queen of Heaven,” “Queen of Heaven.” The Dominican rosary and the Franciscan crown as well as numerous invocations in Mary’s litany celebrate her queenship. // The feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption and is now celebrated on the octave day of that feast. In his encyclical To the Queen of Heaven, Pius XII points out that Mary deserves the title because she is Mother of God, because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work, because of her preeminent perfection and because of her intercessory power. The Queenship Of Mary Pius XII established this feast in 1954. But Mary’s queenship has roots in Scripture. At the Annunciation Gabriel announced that Mary’s Son would receive the throne of David and rule ANNUAL SUMMER FESTIVAL: 12:00 Noon till 9:00 PM today, South Cass Fire Co. Picnic Grounds, Primrose. We invite you to come out and enjoy great ethnic Foods, refreshments, various games and activities. It’s also not too late to give us a hand today; or to volunteer to help with the take down. Just see any worker at the grounds and volun-teer your time and talent to make our Festival a success. If you have already volunteered, please keep your commitment! Hope to see you there! reach our goal. If you have not made your pledge of support, you may drop off your pledge form in the collection basket or return it to the Rectory. Extra pledge forms are available at the back of Church. Please call the Rectory or visit www.adbaa. org with any questions. Thank you for your support! Serve One Another As of today, our parish has raised $17,866 from 202 parishioners representing 95% of our parish goal of $18,950.55 and 33% of our total number of registered families. We need the support of all our parish families to 2013 FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: Today Jesus warns us his Word will create conflict between parents and children. In a permissive society which advocates individualism and consumerism, parents must continue to teach and live the gospel values of respect, service to others, forgiveness, generosity and compassion. A Christian family is a countercultural family. PRO-LIFE REFLECTION: Since God created all life, He is pro-life.  How could we, as His followers, dare to take any other position? STEWARDSHIP: “Do you think I have come to give you peace on Earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.” Luke 12:51. Living a stewardship lifestyle means stepping out of our comfort zone when needed. Many of us like to play it safe, not cause waves, stay in the middle of the road. In today’s world we are called to be informed and take a stance for life, marriage and religious liberty.
